York Indoor Bowls Club were disappointed to only draw with bottom club Scarborough in the Yorkshire Ladies League.

They now trail division one leaders North Cave by six points and also have an inferior shots difference with one game to play.

Linda Harrison’s away team were 16-9 down with eight ends to play. But that was far from half the tale as they won all but one of those ends to notch a fantastic 22-17 victory.

The team led by Sheila Turpin initially struggled to trail 18-5 with six ends left. But they also rallied well before eventually losing 21-10.

At home, Melanie Brooke’s team led 12-10 after 16 ends. But they went into the last 19-12 down, though they managed a creditable four unanswered shots in reply.

Carol Instone’s side were the last to finish but were left disappointed.

They controlled their game almost throughout. But going into the last end leading 24-14 and with the aggregate score standing at 72-71, they dropped a single for the match to be levelled.

New Earswick’s chances of winning division ‘B’ disappeared as they were beaten 80-61 by leaders Selby.

The New Earswick ranks picked up only one winning rink, that of Peggy Walker.

They made the most of a good start which saw them leading 16-3, even though Jennifer Lund’s team came back well before losing 22-12.

Cynthia Wright also got off to a good start – leading 14-2 after 12 before Kath Sykes’ team reduced the arrears to four shots at 14-10.

However, the hosts pulled away again to win 20-12.

Both Selby rinks won at Huntington Road. Cynthia Birkinshaw’s team were level at 8-8 after 12 ends with Margaret Morgan’s side but they finished in style by winning all but two of the remaining ends to make the final score 26-10.

Margaret Moss and Jane Simpson’s teams swapped fours on each of the first four ends to be locked at 8-8 before the Selby team edged in front with a brace of twos that proved decisive in a 22-17 triumph.
