LEEDS United striker Ross McCormack believes caretaker-manager Neil Redfearn could be handed the job on a permanent basis if results go his way.
Redfearn steered Leeds to a 3-0 win at Bristol City after Simon Grayson was sacked.
While the club have been “inundated” with applications, the confirmation of chairman Ken Bates that former York City assistant manager Redfearn will head the team for the next three games – starting with tomorrow’s visit of Brighton – might back up top scorer McCormack’s assertion.
Said 15-goal McCormack: “Redders has come in and given the players a lift. If we go and win six in a row, you would think Neil will get the job, but we’ve got to take it one game at a time.”
Despite a long list of applications, which the Leeds chairman said included former England national coach Sven Goran-Eriksson, Redfearn’s occupation of the hot seat gives him an advantage.
Added Bates: “Despite the turbulence and the poor performance in December we’re still within striking distance and this is a great opportunity for the players, led by Neil Redfearn, to get back in the play-offs.”
