York City sign Middlesbrough defender Ben Gibson

YORK City have signed teenage Middlesbrough centre-back Ben Gibson on loan.

The Nunthorpe-born defender, nephew of Boro chairman Steve Gibson, has made only one first-team appearance for the Riverside Stadium outfit as a substitute last season.

The England Under-18s international had a 13-game loan spell at Plymouth earlier this term.

That's weird. I signed him for City on Football Manager! Welcome Ben.

Duffy should be happy now we have 2 new centre backs and 6 in all! Welcome Ben but be aware City fans have high expectations. Come on City.

Well rated by Plymouth fans. Has to mean one or two out surely.

Welcome ben!
This must mean we will be loaning out a centre back or two?!
Maybe GM thinks we need 2 new CB in team

Squad beginning to look unwieldy and just hope arrival of all these newcomers does not disrupt things - we have not exactly been doing too badly?

4 wins in 11 matches - not exactly promotion form. Maybe at last GM is looking to shore up the defence so we can put some wins together to cement a play-off place. Speaking to some at Darlington it worried me how many took a play-off place for granted -completely unrealistic in my book. We need to string some wins together - 3 or 4 in a row at leats once in the nect few months. Something I've been asking for all season. Any more draws and we'll slip well down this league.

Quite, but it's not as if City deliberately go out to draw/lose games is it? I think City fans, as well as the players, management and Board, are all well aware that we need to string a couple of good runs of wins together to make sure of our place in the top five.

Yet another example of how Jason McGill and the Board support the Manager and the club. Well done guys-keep it up and we'll get there into that League. Come on City.

This is a bit of a surprise loan signing. Unless of course Dave McGurks injury is more serious than first thought. It seems very unlikely that Gary Mills will be able to keep everyone happy, so it does look like someone will be leaving. Its strange that a few days ago some people were posting on here that they believed we had the best set of centre backs in the BSP, so what does the Manager do - "He goes out and signs another two". We have some very tough fixtures coming up, at least the Manager has a few options now.

Not playing too badly? We are 16 points behind Fleetwood (a team we comfortably matched at the start of the season) and all too often we've chucked points away due to 'not being tight enough' at the back.

Whilst I appreciate your dislike of people knocking the team, the whole idea of this season is to get back into the Football League (and maybe win The Trophy).

Silly errors and too many draws will result in Conference football again next season (not before more Wembley defeats).

Exactly, look where we were when we played Wrexham at home points wise and where we are now in comparison to them and Fleetwood. The defence has not been good enough regardless of what anyone says. Two centre halves now signed says everything.

Can see Jamal Fyfield being retained, so as to "shadow" and if necessary, fill-in for James Meredith on the left side of the Back Four. Chris Smith has total backing of GM and will stay. So, Dave McGurk, if he returns to fitness, could be on his way for a loan period - maybe back to Darlo?? Danny P - again, it would make sense that he too went out on loan and The Northern Echo Arena may be a possible destination? With Doig, Gibson, Smith and Fyfield and only three months left of the season, then it's likely the above two are likely loanees. As for Gibson, Boro do have a very good youth set-up and coaching system, so he may well be a real benefit to our promotion hopes. Welcome to York City Ben - just hope you are another aspiring Nunthorpe player in the Jonathan Woodgate mould!!

Bit of a surprise this one, but thanks to the chairman backing the manager might well see a city team who always seem to have a couple of goals in them concede less therefore turn a few more draws into wins.
However I am glad it is GMs job to decide if we put a CB or two out on loan my preference as always would be C Smith pretty much on the perception of his lack of capability to carry the ball into attacking phases of play, yes I know he has scored a couple of vital goals but given our creating set piece tally its disappointing from all players in that position. GM has some decisions to make but I feel he may delay to see how his signings work out in the crucible of the BSP as no point throwing the baby out with the bath water.
What are the prospect of getting saturdays vital Grimsby game on? looking out the window I am currently not positive.

Looms like Kettering could finaly be finished and I think that's us out of the play offs.

By my quick reckoning table would now read
Wrexham 65
Fleetwood 64
Luton 53
Kidderminster 50
Southport 49
York48
Camb 48
Mansfield 48
Grimsby 46
If you mean as matters stand still all to play for albeit our goal difference will suffer, or Duffy is it another black mood meaning end of season?

Southport Mansfield Kiddy and Cambridge all have to play Kettering yet so that'll be 3 points each they wouldn't get in the future!
Its not so bad!!

Grimsby website says they're 'confident' game will go ahead if enough people help to clear the snow. I have my doubts - minus 4 tonight so must still be pretty solid underfoot, unless the snow is providing insulation...

In which case there's the danger of either a waterlogged pitch, if we have a sudden thaw, or of an unsafe pitch under the snow if we have the forecasted overnight cold temperature. Very doubtful game will actually go ahead. Work in Leeds and it's snowing heavily now!

7am is coldest time of the day. Will expose pitch to it too early.
