Malton ‘A’ maintained their three-point lead in the York Conservative Clubs’ Carlsberg UK Snooker League with a 4-3 defeat of Acomb ‘B’, who moved up one place to third.
Malton’s Dominic Spiteri won the first game but Brian Henry levelled and then Lee Taylor, Simon Weatherill and Roman Reeves decided the match for Malton.
Steve Rodgers and Keith Myers made the score more respectable.
Acomb ‘A’ held on to second place with a 4-3 success over Heworth ‘B’.
Richard Lillie gave them a start with a black ball win and Trevor Ventress made it 2-0. Heworth levelled as Darren Colledge came from 40 behind and Brian Birch made it 2-2.
Keith Thornhill moved Acomb ahead with a black ball win, only for Andy Ireland to level again. Paul Holmes decided the match for Acomb.
Fulford ‘A’ moved level with Acomb ‘B’ after a comfortable 5-2 victory over Bootham ‘A’, who have lost five games in a row.
Tom Wilson (22, 25 breaks) and James Lee made it 2-0, then Tim Fillingham (26 break) cleared the black to give Bootham a chance.
Mike Walsh, Mike Bailey (22 break) and George Hogg (25 break) won the match for Fulford before Barry Rankin made a 64 break to gain Bootham’s second point.
Rankin missed a difficult blue which would have made it the highest league break of the season.
Fulford ‘B’ won 4-3 when Nigel Smith won a decisive last frame against Bootham ‘B’.
The teams were level after wins for Fulford by Bob Smith, Jim Rollinson (26 break) and John Adcock, and replies for Bootham by Paul Scorfield (24 break), Paul Mahoney and Jeff Brown.
The Kutters & Shannons Team Snooker Cup has reached the semi-final stage, with some interesting results along the way.
In the preliminary round, 2010 winners Malton ‘A’ were taken to the last frame before Roger Ward decided the match by beating Acomb captain Gary Robinson.
However, Malton lost 4-3 in the first round to Acomb ‘B’, who were a player short.
Cup holders Heworth ‘A’ also went out in the first round after a shock 5-2 home defeat to Fulford ‘B’.
Bootham ‘B’ lost 4-3 at Heworth ‘B’, despite Paul Mahoney (33 break) giving them an ideal start.
Heworth went 3-1 ahead and, after Mark Calpin (28 break) stopped the run, Roland Cox and Vic Gamble completed the recovery.
Bootham ‘A’ came from behind to beat Fulford ‘A’ 4-3.
Rob Barron won the first game for Bootham, but Tim Lister, Mike Walsh (53 break) and Simon England (27 break) moved Fulford 3-1 in front.
Captain Colin Robinson reduced the arrears then Barry Rankin (38 break) and Chris Dower wrapped up an unlikely success.
Three ‘B’ teams are in the semi-finals for the first time.
Fulford ‘B’ will be seeking their third final in four years, although they next face Bootham ‘A’ who defeated them in the 2009 final.
Heworth ‘B’ entertain Acomb ‘B’.
