DESPITE a week’s break from the European Tour, York’s sultan of swing Simon Dyson retained his best ever world position.
Dyson still stands at number 26 in the world rankings, which he achieved courtesy of his joint 17th position in the Abu Dhabi Championships last month.
To have stayed at number 26 – he is the sixth-highest placed Englishman in the world ratings behind Luke Donald (world number one), Lee Westwood (number three), Justin Rose (20), Ian Poulter (21) and Paul Casey (26) – will have buoyed the York-born star’s confidence ahead of his return to the European Tour in the $2.5 million Omega Dubai Desert Classic, which starts at the Emirates Golf Club on Thursday.
However, Dyson’s absence from last week’s Qatar Masters, won by Scotland’s former Open champion Paul Lawrie, has seen a fall of three places in the Ryder Cup points list.
Dyson is 15th in the European points list, but has dipped to 13th position in the world points table.
