York City v Ebbsfleet United - match postponed

YORK City have been forced to postpone the FA Trophy third round tie against Ebbsfleet United for the second time in four days.

The game was postponed on Saturday due to a frozen pitch and, having rearranged the game for tomorrow night, Minstermen officials have called the game off again due to a snow covered surface and public safety concerns.

The tie has been rescheduled for Tuesday, February 14 (7.45pm).

The winners of the tie will travel to either Bath City or Grimsby Town in the next round.

Early enough for you, Mr Daish, or were you already at ground anxiously waiting?

To be fair to Ebbsfleet, i remember many occasions when York have complained about the same thing. It must be pretty annoying.

Hardly a surprise, it's got to be very cold again to-morrow and the Vale of York is mentioned in several weather forecasts as being at risk and also the mention of fog in the evening!! The inconvienience of travelling from Kent is obvious but their manager mentioned the expense - don't professional clubs take out travel insurance for such eventualities? ie. Cancellations/curtai
lments?? Anyhow, it will give our squad the chance to be fully rested for Saturday and to get to know each other! Are Grimsby still having to go to Bath in their FAT3 to-morrow, or is that game off too?! It will have both an interest for the QFs but if Grimsby have a tough away game tomorrow and with a long journey, then that might be to our advantage come Saturday afternoon??

Indeed, I shall be inside the Blue Bicycle with Mrs TJ at 7.45 pm on Tuesday 14 November; I know on which side my bread is buttered!

Postponements are always frustrating.

They're also inevitable where a sport played in winter is concerned, so you just bite your tongue and get on with it.

Like I always do, no grumbling, no complaints.

agree with you there, wasnt it grays away a couple of years ago when it was called off as the players were warming up tough draw next round but if mills wants to win it that badly you have to beat whats put in front of you first

I would like to bet that if it had been a nice juicy FA cup game or say Luton at home Valentines day would have been moved forward a day this year. It would in this house anyway.

The threat of more postponements is turning me into a proper weather anorak! YCFC withdrawal symptoms starting to show.....

Met Office 5 day forecast suggests that overnight temperatures are nudging above freezing at the end of the week, but will it be enough to thaw ground frozen for days on end?

Here's hoping they've got some good covers, or failing that tropical breezes at Cleethorpes (unlikely I know).

Cue cr@p jokes about Michael Fish and Grimsby.

For those of you looking to the YEP website to see whether Saturday's game was on or off you will, if you looked hard enough, have got helpful information from regular City-following posters. YEP lets us know the game's postponed on Monday...do its reporters send their 'news' in to the newsroom by second class post? Invest in some carrier pigeons maybe? Or just walk from Bootham Crescent to Walmgate that might be quicker.
Amazingly though on the same day the paper manages to forewarn us that Tuesday's rearranged fixture is probably also off.
I only come on this site to hear the up to date and informed and usually entertaining views of fellow posters - why else would you?

The BBC weather forecast has an improvement for the weekend with the last frost on Wednesday night.
Grimsby trip now looks a go-er.
Hopefully the lads are getting their training in because this is a vital game.

I broke the news on Boucaud at 9:30 on transfer day and I live in London. Just shows how in touch the YEP are with what goes on at the club.

Games called being off - you've got to expect this in 'winter'. I remember travelling to Grays, just before Christmas - players on the pitch warming up and the referee (it was a female referee as well - wouldn't take a stud, sorry a stiletto) calls the game off. Massive snowfall following the game being called off - lucky I flew off on holiday the following day. Also remember our game being called off against Yeovil at 1-30pm due to heavy rain, pitch flooded
Hopefully the game will be on Saturday - it's nearer the coast, salt air and all that - could help
