Ged Dalton returns to Pickering Town

Jimmy Reid believes Pickering Town have re-signed a real prospect in Ged Dalton.

The 21-year-old former Scarborough player, who once attracted the interest of Premier League Blackburn Rovers, has returned to the Recreation Ground following a spell at Bridlington Town.

The Pikes boss brought him on as a second-half substitute in his side’s 5-0 destruction of Nostell Miners Welfare last weekend and believes Dalton has a key role to play as he bids to continue the rise up the table when Armthorpe come to Mill Lane.

“We have seen him for 20 minutes and he looks a very good footballer,” Reid said. “He’s been at Blyth and Carlisle and, sometimes, people don’t settle. Hopefully he will settle with us. Ged has a lot of potential. He’s not played for a few weeks and we might need to look at a friendly somewhere to get him more minutes.

“He’s a big acquisition. Sometimes you can get an injury or two but he’s not going to fall out with me, is he? If he falls out with me then there’s something the matter with him. Hopefully we will look after him. There’s a good team behind him and he knows Browny (Steve Brown, assistant manager).”

Reid was delighted with the 5-0 Nostell win, as much for the clean sheet as the goals, and believing the next three matches – Armthorpe, Liversedge and Parkgate – to be testing, he is looking for his resurgent side to step up further.

He added: “We had 26 at training on Tuesday night – including the under-19s – and it was a tremendous turnout. The people at Pickering have been marvellous, the fans have been tremendous, we have lifted them out of the doldrums but we are still in a precarious position.”

Reid expected his side to be similar to that which beat Nostell, with Darren Clough on the mend after injury but likely to be a week away from a return.
