STRIKER Lee Powell turned in a stunning performance for Acomb Celtic in the Ian’s Cars of Barlby York Sunday Morning Football League first division.
Powell blasted seven goals in Celtic’s storming 8-2 conquest of table-toppers Enterprise.
The game was deadlocked at 2-2 at half-time after a brace of goals from Danny Penrose for Enterprise were countered by replies from Powell and Adam Brooke.
Enterprise were then awarded a penalty that also reduced Acomb to ten men.
But goalkeeper Pete Gent saved the spot-kick and Powell proved unstoppable firing in no fewer than six unanswered strikes.
Division two runaway leaders King William were assured of promotion after drawing 3-3 with visitors Wigginton Grasshoppers.
The front-runners took the lead after 20 five minutes, Gary Newton rounding the ’keeper to score. Tom Bissett doubled the advantage before half-time.
Hoppers pulled one back through Tom Coates before a leveller from Matty Tiplady.
With 20 minutes to go Wigginton debutant Terry Taylor made it 3-2, but ten minutes later parity was restored with a second Newton goal.
Haxby Lions kept their slim promotion hopes alive with a 3-2 home win over Albion Vaults thanks to a brace from John Simpson and a Dale Waddington strike. Adam Durning and Chris Harkin replied.
York Medics moved into the division three promotion places after a last-minute header from Richard Burne saw off Bubwith Nomads 3-2.
Nomads took an early lead with a penalty from Craig Hodgson but Medics equalised with a rasping Matthew Fortnam free-kick.
Sam Milner put the villagers 2-1 up by the interval only for a second Medics’ leveller from Greg Chambers. However, they were denied by Burne’s late header.
Marcia Grey’s Nick McBride netted his second hat-trick in two weeks in Marcia’s 5-4 win over Britannia Tadcaster, Chris Murcutt and Rich Kendall completing the scoring for Marcia.
Huntsman FC beat division four table-topping visitors Bishopthorpe 3-0.
Leading 1-0 at the break with a rare goal from full-back Ben Scholey, Huntsman withstood sustained Bishopthorpe pressure in the second period and made sure of the points with late goals from Luke Lambert and George Wojik.
Huntington’s unbeaten run continued with a 5-0 win over LNER Builders thanks to a treble from Nicke Rako, plus Chris Long and Simon Yorke strikes.
Linton-on-Ouse brushed aside Gypsy Moth 6-2 with a brace of goals from Rob Bradley, plus efforts by Chris Brown, Liam Pearson, Lee Johnson and John Bogan.
Division five front-runners Bubwith FC made it nine wins out of nine by beating Dick Turpin 7-2.
Will Nicholson top-scored for Bubwith with a hat-trick followed by goals from Jamie Sedman (2), Tommy Hardcastle and Andy Woodall. Turpin replied through Gavin Clarke and Tom East, both goals bagged in the first half.
York RI remained in touch with the leaders after thumping St John’s 7-0.
Gary Rylance’s four-goal haul was supplemented by goals from Jake Moyse (2) and John Colinger.
