THE second Streamline Taxis York Open Darts Championship will get underway tomorrow with a prize pot of £4,801.

An overall winners’ prize of £501 will be at stake with the first of eight fortnightly stages taking place at Huntington WMC this weekend.

Each stage winner will pocket £200, while ranking points over the eight qualifiers will determine who makes up the 32-strong field to contest the Grand Finals Saturday on June 9.

This year, organisers York Darts Promotions are introducing a Ladies Championship as well, which will also start at Huntington tomorrow.

That will include another three stages – March 3, April 7 and May 5.

Each stage winner in that competition will receive £100, as will the overall champion on June 9, although the prize fund may increase depending on the number of entries.

The top-ranked eight ladies will win a place at the Grand Finals.

A £5 entry fee is required per qualifying stage and can be accepted on the day.

Doors will open at Huntington at 10.30 am with the bar serving from 11am.

Registration closes for the men’s event at noon with toe the oche at 12.30pm. The respective times for the ladies’ tournament are 1pm and 1.30pm.

Pit Stop Sandwich and Snack Bar in Lawrence Street are this year’s board sponsors and will offer a ten per cent discount for anybody quoting York Darts Promotions on the day.
