FORMER Queens Park Rangers, Sheffield United and Scarborough boss Neil Warnock is favourite to take the reins at Leeds United.
The Elland Road club sacked Bedale-born Simon Grayson as boss yesterday, hours after the club’s crushing 4-1 defeat to Birmingham.
Former York City coach and assistant manager Neil Redfearn who is youth team coach at Elland Road, has taken charge as caretaker boss.
But Warnock, who last month was sacked by QPR, would be seen as the ideal man to achieve Leeds’ goal of a return to the top-flight.
Leeds’ chief executive Shaun Harvey said: “We have 18 games to go and are still within touching distance of the play-offs, but felt with the transfer window now closed we needed to make the change at this time in the belief that a new managerial team will be able to get more out of the existing squad of players and make the difference.”
