UK Snooker Championship: Red hot Dott romps through round one

By Stuart Martel, Sports editor
ANYTHING less than lifting the UK Snooker Championship title will be classed as a failure by world number ten Graeme Dott, writes Stuart Martel.
Red-hot Dott swept aside qualifier Matthew Selt 6-1 with a breathtaking display of break-building in round one at the Barbican.
After runs of 63, 117, 75, 54, 45 and 99 against a 102 from Selt, the 2006 world champion insisted it was time to make his mark on snooker’s second-biggest ranking event.
“I got to the semi-finals last time it was in York, but I haven’t ever really done well in the UK Championship,” he said.
“I want to try to win it – I would like to play a bit better and do well in all the majors. I started really well, but all the players are sharp because of the amount of snooker we are playing.”
Next up for Dott is a clash with Neil Robertson in round two tomorrow at 7pm.
