Ainsty starlet Adam Thompson defeated his father Chris on the way to lifting the John Smith’s Darts League individual crown, writes Dan Pfluger.
After overcoming his dad, a leading professional, in the quarter-finals, Thompson, right, (19, 20) beat John Quantock (Mitre) (18) 3-1 in the semis, where Mitre’s Steve Atkin (18, 20) despatched Dave Mason (Ainsty) (18) 3-1.
In the final, Atkin (19, 20) led 2-1, before Thompson returned with a 19 and 21 to take the title.
In the doubles final, Chris Thompson and Paul Cooper (Ainsty) combined to defeat Rich Corner and John Quantock (Mitre) 2-1.
Corner-Quantock (25) took the opening leg before the Thompson-Cooper axis (20, 26) hit back to lift the trophy.
Paul Dixon (Acomb) (18) and Andy Rennie (180 for 14) were undone by Ainsty’s Paul Cooper (104 c/o for 18 & 17), Dave Mason (17) and Chris Thompson (110 c/o for 18 & 18) who ran out 5-2 winners in the triples final.
John Lansbury (Tang Hall) (22, 23) beat his team mate Billy Smith 2-0 to win the division two final.
