Clifton ‘A’ ladies remain unbeaten in division one of the York Badminton League after a comprehensive 9-0 victory over old rivals RI Mon/Wed ‘B’.

Lucy Smith and Karen Broster again set the standard with a best return so far of 126-40 after three straight wins.

In ladies two, Clifton ‘B’ maintained their grip on the top spot after a 6-3 away win over a gritty Tadcaster 86 team.

Lesley Bowling and Jaclyn Shorter took all three home victories in fine style to register a return of 140-94.

Quian Noble and Leanne Wagenaars made the result safe with a 15 and 14 success over Pat Watson and Marina Hilditch.

University Students ‘B’ suffered two defeats in men’s division one after 6-3 and 5-4 home reverses against Riverside and RI Tues/Thurs ‘A’ respectively.

Alex Fowler and Geoff Oxley starred for Riverside with three straight wins for 126-52, while, in the Institute match, Adam Hirst and James Somerside excelled for the campus with three wins for a 166-144 aggregate.

Soren Stendevad and Matt Hitchins ensured the away victory for RI with a 21-12, 22-20 triumphover Tim Robson and P Campbell.

Clifton ‘A’ lost their eight-match winning sequence when they entertained University Students ‘A’ and just lost out by the odd game in nine.

George Noble and Erik Wagenaars got Clifton on the right track with three wins for 144-94 but the campus team rallied to snatch the deciding ninth rubber when Paddy Clarke and Ricky Kanabar beat Dave Rogers and Daniel Woolfson 21-15, 18-21, 21-16.

Clifton ‘C’ visited Selby/Drax ‘B’ in men’s two and were good value for an 8-1 win.

Colin Farrell and Karl Warren were the pick of the visitors with a return of 126-82 from straight wins. John Prickett and Naz Shefta stopped the whitewash with a 16 and 14 success over James Belham and John Gibson.

Selby/Drax ‘B’ suffered a further setback when they went down 7-2 at home to local rivals Selby Jubilee ‘A’.

James Dawson and J Burnett were in great form for Jubilee with three straight wins for 126-89, while Gavin Long and Pete Murphy also excelled for Jubilee by taking their maximum for 145-99.

University Students ‘A’ made it a five-win sequence after a 7-2 home win over Clifton ‘B’ and an 8-1 home win over Shepherds in mixed one.

James Hor and Liz McFadzean took the vital maximum against Clifton to return 162-125, which included a 21-17, 18-21, 21-16 conquest of Kevin Davison and Shelagh Barker, who took both Clifton wins.

Riverside ‘B’ finally opened their mixed two account after a 6-3 home win over Selby Jubilee ‘A’.

The highlight of the match was by Jubilee’s opening pair of James and Nig Dawson, who took all their side’s three wins for a 126-65 total.
