York City land Bangor City striker

UPDATED: York City have signed Bangor City striker Jamie Reed.

The 23-year-old frontman has penned a deal which runs until the end of the 2013 season.

City boss Gary Mills said: "I'm delighted to have finally signed Jamie. I have been chasing him for a while. He is a striker with great promise and a good goalscoring record."

Reed has joined the Minstermen for an undisclosed fee, with Bangor chairman Dilwyn Jones saying: "We wish Jamie the very best of luck in his move.

"He has served Bangor City well, and is a player of immense skill and a professional temperament.

"The deal we have agreed with York is the best we have ever been able to negotiate for the sale of a player."

Just hope we have not done another Gash type deal. Bangor have stated we had doubled our previous offer. This is only league of Wales standard which is pretty crap by all accounts so it is a risk.

Wikipedia says he scored 37 goals from 47 appearances for Bangor, which is pretty decent! Wonder if we'll be seeing him on Saturday?

Don't know much about the lad but suspect he will be on the bench Saturday. Welcome to City!
Lot of positive news this week and hopefully more to come cumulating in a good result at the Reebok. I know a few Bolton fans and none of them are going - they think its no win for them and are saving their cash for 'bigger' games but seem to be a bit worried.

While I agree we have to trust Mills the league of Wales is a very poor standard. One of our failed former players is the record goalscorer.
As I say I just hope we have not paid silly money again given Bangor state this is the best deal they have ever received for a player.

I dont want to sound negative but people lets look on the bright side. A few weeks ago York were in serious financial trouble according to some and we should look to replace brodie etc etc. The club have shown over the time he has been here that they will back Mills. The same club went out and got Mills who looks the real deal. Lets welcome Mr Reed who is Mills choice not Foyles and enjoy the fact we seem to be on an upward curve with plenty to look forward to. Well done McGill and Mills for landing a highly sought after striker.

Let's give the guy a chance to prove himself!! Purcell is still our player who came from a similar standard so who knows if we have landed a couple of goal scorers or not yet? Constantine was always a short term panic buy and will presumably be unloaded at the first opportunity to balance the books. If we can keep McGurk and lose Courteney then the squad is certainly looking stronger.

Before this starts into another " why so negative" thread. I am mearly stating I hope we did not go overboard with the amount we offered given the standard he was playing at. It's not a dig at the player in any way who I hope turns out to be a big success.

Agree with you on every point except about Constantine. He's obviously not the highest quality player in the squad, but the guy has managed to score 4 goals from what is really very little time on the pitch (mostly as a sub), making him our second highest scorer. I'd say he has his uses, even if it's just as a last minute shock substitute.

I believe Reed had a spell on loan at Tamworth, so I'd hazard a guess Mills has made this signing because he KNOWS what the player can do, not just because he hopes he can do a job for us.

I dont recall ever seeing this guy play, but I have watched video clips of his goals. He has scored some good goals with his feet and he also scores a few with his head. At the moment we are just using Rankine as a battering ram, but if we have a goal poacher to feed off him, it could be just what we need. A natural goalscorer knows about positioning himself in the right place, and they can often adjust to a different level of play. The supporters of York City will welcome the signing of Jamie Reed, "Good Luck" to the lad, I wish him well.

To be honest I think you are all being a bit ponsy about this. We have bought a guy that has absolutely ripped his league apart - he can on score against who he is playing, which he has done with great success at Bangor. Also the Welsh Prem isn't that bad, they do play in the Europa League and Champions League qualifiers remember, and even if it wasn't too good if you look how far ahead Bangor are from the rest fo the field it is clear that they would be a few levels higher. To be honest I think Welsh Prem is about the same level as conf North and South, so only one leagues difference - yet you were all outraged by the thought of us letting Brodie go to anyone below league 1, but what do you think teams that high up would have though if they heard they had signed him - they would think as snobbishly as you guys, but we know he could score goals. When Millwall signed Steve Morison they're fans weren't excited, but now look at him - beign chased by Fulham and a full international. Anyway rant over, all I say is stop insulting where he has come from because were not exactly much higher, and just appreciate what he has done, as 37 goals in 47 games is outstanding at any level

This lad has tremendous ability and ball control, great skills can score goals and set up team mates.

This team Gary Mills is setting up has the potential to achieve great things.

Hope he's a diamond in the rough but he is coming from a poor league.
Some Wrexham friends I know rated him when he was there so hopefully returning to a professional setup will aid his development.
I've seen games in the Welsh League and they're physical contests, so at least the lad will have no problems with some of the dirty defending we get.

m sure some of you think your experts though. At the end of the day Millsy is one of the best Managers we have had at the club for a while and knows what he's doing.

doesnt matter where he was playing before its what he does now that counts.And from what Ive seen so far mills seems to have a good judgement on players,great to see hes getting players to come here and also wanting to stay here, happy days ahead I think.

Why all the doubts about the lad before he's even kicked a ball for us ? Just because he comes from a lower league does not mean he can't play. I seem to remember a certain Keith Walwyn was a reject stuck in Chesterfield's reserves also Tony Canham and Martin Woolford easily made the step up . Good managers can spot talent and I believe we have a seriously good one in the making.
I can't wait for saturday for us to out shout the home fans and I am having a little bet on an away win COME ON CITY

...and one you forgot to mention Arsene - that scrawny young lad that we signed from Newcastle Benfield Bay Plastics a few years ago. He did alright for us!
