Former York City boss Martin Foyle in running for Hereford United job

FORMER York City boss Martin Foyle has been interviewed for the Hereford United managerial vacancy.

Foyle is one of seven candidates shortlisted for the Bulls' job and is expected to learn whether he has been successful at the weekend.

Hereford chairman David Keyte said: “Martin Foyle was one of the seven people we have spoken to and we have finished our interviews now.

"I will be having a meeting with vice-chairman Tim Russon today to discuss the candidates but I'm away from tomorrow until Saturday on a business trip.”

That's great - the YEP have got more news out of the chairman of a football club 250 miles away than our own.
This, together with the very frank report on the Newport game, suggests that the relationship between the club and the Press is not a good one!

I hope he gets it and pinches some of his recent signings back off us.

im sure they would give him time to replace their leading goalscorer however and not made to make quick rushed signings to fill the team. wonder if he could do the same to hereford that he has done with us? bringing us from a bottom three team to a promotion contender.

Good luck Martin I hope he gets it. He deserves a league job after what he achieved with York. Just wish it had with us this season.

Don't think he needs to pinch any of our recent signings,we should give them to him with our thankfull blessings..

give the job to Steve Torpid - things can't be any more farcical than thererare at them moment . How long does it flippin take to pick a football manager .There were 2 good candidates presumably up for it 2 weeks and 3 matches ago ( Quinn & Penney ) By wasting time the board have allowed confidence to drift in the players and these points dropped could cost us at the end of the season( probably missing out on a playoff spot assuming a good manager comes in and we make good signings in jan with the brodie money - I'm not going to consider the prospect that those points lost could make us finish in the bottom 4 )

I have this disappointing image of the board interviewing a football manager as if they were choosing a business executive or manager for their company . Are they waiting for references to be returned before they appoint . Football is a completely different buisiness and if the right person is out there get them in straight away because if you don't they'll be taken by a more ambitious rival

Darlington fans seem convinced that Mark Cooper is leaving them to go to either York City or Lincoln City. Other possibilities are Andy Preece, Neil Aspin and Dave Penney. I think I'd be happy with any of them at the moment.

Wowzers Chris!
What exactly are you on today because I sure could use some of it.
Brodie money has all gone. Please, no more delusions about money being spent to improve the team.
Missing out on a play-off spot! There isn't one goal in the current squad so we will be in a relegation dog fight come January.
It is a real struggle to understand what has gone wrong but the back room staff have gone, the shop manager has I believe walked out and the players don't care that much because win or lose they are still going to get paid.
What a shocking state of affairs. The fans deserve so much more, even paying to watch the players trying to win a match would be a bonus.

Changing the subject completely, the News Now Conference website has a story that Keith Walwyn's son Matt has just helped someone win over £3,000,000 on the pools.
It was some kind of complicated bet that needed AFC Fylde to draw 2-2 at Clitheroe last week. Walwyn scored two late goals for Fylde to make it happen. I wonder if he got any of the winnings?

I have read this about Darlo.

If you look at Lincoln forums their manager's job seems to be between Cooper and Tilson (ex Southend).

Hopefully MF will get fixed up at Hereford and we'll get Penney.

Thankfully the Cambridge job didn't come up over the weekend so there should be plenty of action in the next day or two.

I haven't studied the 'form' of the various managers but Dave Penny appeals to me because of what he achieved at Doncaster. If he could come here and achieve half as much I'd die happy. There's a lot of talk about Cooper but he doesn't actually seem to have achieved much apart from his first job (Kettering?). No doubt the club will tell us who the new bloke is after he's been doing the job for a couple of weeks.

A VERY reliable source has informed me that Gareth Southgate is on the verge of becoming the York manager.

Also backed up by the fact his children go to St Peters school

www.soccerlens.com/d
ave-penney-profile/ is worth a read, especially the style of play. We would see more entertaining football with him than Cooper and I don't like the fact that Cooper had a major moan about his own players over the weekend.
Probably not going to be either of them!

So up to now we have 3 new managers definitely coming - Penney, Cooper and Southgate (or was the last one a wind-up?)
Obviously all of this speculation is a bit pointless but I'm enjoying it, especially since the alternative is to go and decorate the hall and stairs.

Let's face it, it's more entertaining than the football we've had to endure, recently. Mind you, so is decorating the hall and stairs. Let's have the announcement soon please Jason, than we can start planning for taking three badly-needed points off Bath.

Radio York have just announced that an approach to Darlington for mark Cooper has just been turned down. its time the Mcgills gave us some information - what is going on? Why are people leaving?
As far as the manager is concerned, I would go for Dave Penny. I remember his team , Doncaster, running rings round us in the final game at Belle Vue, about 5 seasons ago.

Mark Cooper has won just 4 of his 15 matches in charge of Darlington, and has been suffering abuse from the crowd. Just the right guy for us then !!

Some old bloke says...
5:23pm Mon 11 Oct 10

Yes, Yorkie42 beat me to it. It seems that Darlington won't even let City talk to Cooper. Can't say I'm too disappointed. I agree that Penney would be great but maybe he doesn't want it, or maybe the board can't pay him enough. Sounds like it will be quite a while yet before anything is announced (cue statement by 6 pm!).

All this speculation is highly entertaining but the sound of silence from the board is not. Bottom line, I don't beleive they don't look at the views on here - if they don't thetyt really are clueless. A statement today -even if it was a holding one was vital. Laughably I've just listened to a debate on 5 Live about why people with a certain first name never succeed. Any guesses for the name in question?

although I dont agree with a lot of what the moaners and complainers have to say on here I do think it is about time the board let us in on what is going on.

Interesting that the Hereford chairman can go off on a business trip for a week before deciding who gets their job.Bet their fans love that!
It would seem that Cooper's position at Darlo must be untenable, now that the fans are slating him for their poor run and rumours of him resigning at half-time are circulating.
Whether its Cooper,Penney,Brabin
,Aspin or whoever, the key thing is to get him in place well before the Bath game and certainly in time to have an impact on the Kiddie tie which is a must-win from the financial point of view.

At last the club speaks

ReportUpdate on finances from Sophie Hickby York City FC Official on Tuesday, October 12, 2010 at 8:06am

York City Football Club has appointed long standing supporter and former Trust Board member, Peter Rookes, as the Club's Financial Management Consultant.

Peter Rookes will be providing the Board of directors with regular financial information to assist budgeting. Peter has been providing a financial support service for some years and will continue to operate on a volunteer basis, but with a more formal advisory engagement with the Board. Communications and community director, Sophie Hicks said, "We very much welcome Peter Rookes' financial advice. He has been preparing management forecasts for the Club for some time, but we felt we needed to formalise his position within the organisation. Peter is a long standing fan and understands the complex financial demands of the Football Club. Like the directors of the Club, Peter will be assisting on a voluntary basis and we very much appreciate his support." The financial position of York City remains the same as previous recent seasons. The Club is likely to make a significant operating loss this year, but continues to be financially supported by their Malton based parent company, J M Packaging Ltd. York City continues to work hard to increase commercial revenue, though this is a difficult task in the current economic climate. In order to reduce costs at the Club, which is essential, York City has been forced to make two redundancies recently as part of a review of operations. Other cost reducing measures which have been implemented this season include new stewarding arrangements and the outside management of the Social Club, now the Pitchside Bar. Sophie Hicks added, "Due to the current economic climate, like a lot of other businesses, we have been forced to look at cost reductions at the Club for the long term benefit of York City. We have tried to maintain a healthy playing budget in order to give us the best chance of on-pitch success and we are now looking forward to the arrival of a new manager to make this happen."

I hope this financial information will put an end to the scurrilous rumours that have appeared on the website recently regarding the McGills handling of the club's finances. It is impossible to run a football club at this level and make a profit, and there is no spare cash to take out. However I do think the club could be more forthcoming on the maagerial situation, which is what the fans are really interested in. It is rumoured that Sven may be prepared to walk out of Leicester with a £2m pay-off (well he has been there a couple of weeks now ! ), and join City on a dream ticket with Paul Gascoigne (once he gets out of jail). Seriously Sophie, tell us who is on the short list and we'll tell you who we want.

Sir Alex says...
10:35am Tue 12 Oct 10

Hopefully Gareth Southgate is acting as a advisor - that would make some sense of the 'sightings'.
The delay may be because Lincoln will have the same names on their shortlist and unfortunately their job is more attractive at the moment.
At least its not Cooper.

Sir Alex says...
12:52pm Tue 12 Oct 10

Could be Mark Procter???
Been successful at Middlesbro and the Southgate sightings could be a factor??
Just a guess.
