NORWICH Union will compete in the FA Futsal National finals this weekend at Sheffield.

The five-a-side team, which consists of players from the Leeper Hare York and District League division one club, will take on 16 other qualifiers from up and down the country at Don Valley Stadium's English Institute for Sport having won the York and Selby heat.

Union completed the League and Cup double in last season's York Futsal League at Burnholme College and fought back from 4-2 down to win 5-4 in their regional qualifier against the Selby champions.

Futsal is the fastest-growing form of five-a-side football in the country. It encourages skilful rather than physical play with any team that commits five fouls in a half conceding a free shot on their goal.

Union will play two matches at Sheffield on Friday and another two on Saturday before learning whether they have reached the competition's last eight, who will then contest finals' day on Sunday.

A total of 24 teams now play Futsal in two leagues in York and one Selby-based league.

The league organisers are looking for new teams for next season, which will kick off at the end of the month.
