COACH Simon Baynes is determined to make New Earswick All Blacks ARLC a force to be reckoned with in Pennine League division one east.
The White Rose Avenue club made the perfect start to life in the new-look regional second tier following relegation from the top flight, beating Dewsbury Moor 28-22.
They travel to Wakefield side Ackworth Jaguars on Saturday (2.30pm) aiming to build on that first-day success and Baynes declared confidence in the camp was high.
“I know we will kick on and become a force in the new set-up,” he said.
“However, continued hard work at training and commitment by the players on match days will be vital.”
Jo Hnesh and Liam Gargan should return for All Blacks, but centre Chris Spain is still an injury doubt.
Tom Dunmore has re-signed for the club, while former Leicester Academy rugby union Max Brachen is expected to keep his shirt after an outstanding debut against Moor.
Ben Henson, man of the match for the ‘A’ last Saturday, is also in the running for a first team call-up.
All Blacks ‘A’ team are at home to Hoyland in Pennine League division four (2.30pm).
Loose forward Mark Tipping is out with a broken rib and the remainder of coach Carl Pallister’s side will be finalised after training tonight.
Selby Warriors coach Paul Helstrip could recall hooker Jason McManus for Saturday’s division three home clash with Greetland All Rounders (2.30pm).
McManus was dropped for disiplinary reasons ahead of last weekend’s 12-4 victory over Odsal Sedbergh, but the matter has now been closed.
The Warriors ‘A’, who travel to Odsal Sedbergh ‘A’ in division seven, are looking for new players.
Anyone interested in joining can attend training on Tuesdays and Thursdays, from 7pm, at the Websters Timber Sports Fields.
