Wootton Bassett, who hit the jackpot at York last month, bids for another big money payout at Doncaster tomorrow as he aims to extend his unbeaten sequence to four straight wins.
Hailed by his Malton trainer Richard Fahey as the best two-year-old he has ever trained, Wootton Bassett goes for the Weatherbys Insurance £300,000 2-Y-O Stakes with Paul Hanagan in the saddle and is awarded the nap vote.
The high-class colt gained his latest victory on Knavesmire in the DBS Yearling Stakes, a race which carried a first prize of more than £147,000, and Fahey has targeted another giant purse for his bright young talent.
Chiswick Bey, third to Wootton Bassett at York along with Premier Clarets – fifth in the Gimcrack – and last Sunday’s York winner El Viento, are also set to represent Fahey in this richly-endowed contest, but Wootton Bassett remains the number one hope and is fancied to come good yet again.
Frankie Dettori teams up with Mark Johnston in the £100,000 DFS Park Hill Stakes and the duo have strong claims with Eastern Aria, who has done nothing but improve this season.
Winner of a Listed race at Newmarket and a Group 3 race at Goodwood, Eastern Aria was beaten only two lengths into fourth place in Group 2 company at Deauville in France on her latest outing.
Provided the ground does not get any softer, Eastern Aria should be a tough nut to crack in a race regarded as the fillies’ St Leger run over the identical course-and-distance.
In the DFS Handicap, Royal Destination is selected to turn the tables on Sweet Lightning, following their close encounter at York’s Ebor Festival.
The pair were separated by only a head on that occasion, but Royal Destination is now 2lb better off with his conqueror and that may just be enough to enable Ryan Moore’s mount to get his revenge.
Nathaniel is taken to get punters off to a good start in the opening crownhotel-bawtry.com Maiden Stakes.
The John Gosden-trained colt went into many a notebook when failing by just half-a-length to beat Frankel on his debut at Newmarket last month.
Dever Dream, a staying-on second to Bounty Box, after meeting trouble in running in last month’s Pipalong Stakes at Pontefract, is expected to relish the step up to seven furlongs in the Japan Racing Association Sceptre Stakes.
Thirsk trainer David Barron canwin the Meadowhall Fashion Handicap with La Zamora, a July winner at York.
