A PUNISHING tournament schedule finally caught up with Simon Dyson as his challenge faded in the Omega European Masters.
The York golfer was well-placed at the halfway stage at six-under-par, but fatigue kicked in over the weekend and he closed with rounds of 74 and 75 to finish in joint-60th place.
The event at Crans-sur-Sierre in Switzerland came hot on the heels of the 32-year-old’s jet-setting attempt to gatecrash the European Ryder Cup team.
Having played in the USPGA, Dyson travelled to the Czech Open and then on to the Johnnie Walker Championship at Gleneagles, suffering Ryder Cup agony prior to his trek to the Swiss Alps.
Next on the agenda is this weekend’s defence of his KLM Open title in Holland, but the end of that tournament will signal the start of a well-earned three-week break.
His one-over-par total for the four rounds in Switzerland left him 22 shots adrift of winner Miguel Angel Jimenez, who finished three shots clear of the field.
Yesterday’s round started with a birdie, but that was quickly followed by a run of four bogeys from the second hole to the fifth.
He picked up a stroke at the seventh, but another dropped shot at the ninth saw him out in 39. On the back nine his three birdies were interspersed with two bogeys and a double-bogey.
On Saturday, an eagle at the par-five first was quickly forgotten as he dropped six shots while only picking up a solitary birdie.
