‘Don’t writes us off’ says York City defender Daniel Parslow

DANIEL PARSLOW has spoken of his “frustration” at York City’s start to the Blue Square Bet Premier campaign – but insists it’s far too early to write the Minstermen off.

City have collected just six points from the opening six matches and are in 16th in the table ahead of the visit of Rushden & Diamonds to Bootham Crescent today.

Following a disappointing 2-1 reverse at Fleetwood Town on Bank Holiday Monday, Parslow is keen that York get back to collecting three point hauls this afternoon.

“Of course,” declared Parslow, pictured, when asked whether it was too soon to abandon hopes of a promotion push.

“We are six games in. The lads do look at the league table and we are not where we want to be. There’s still a long way to go and we want to go one better than last season.

“We need to tweak a few things and hopefully we will get it right sooner rather than later.”

He continued: “It’s very frustrating. Opening day (against Kidderminster) we were poor, we didn’t get going. Since then I think we have played really well. Results have not gone our way and we should have had a few more points on the board.

“Against Fleetwood we have gone back a few steps. We went there on the back of a good win at the weekend and we wanted to build on that.

“There were no excuses. We just didn’t start.

“When you go to places like that and you don’t start well they get the initiative and it is hard to get going.”

Parslow has filled the right-back berth this season, keeping the now fit again summer signing Duane Courtney out of the side.

Although conceding again that he is “more comfortable” at centre-back, the Welsh ‘C’ International is happy to fulfil any role manager Martin Foyle asks of him.

“With the way it has gone in pre-season, the gaffer has asked me to do a job at full-back and there’s no question I will do my best,” he added.

“If he wants me to play there, there is no problem by me.

“I feel as though I am getting better.

“Defensively, I feel quite solid but I am always trying to improve in going forward as it is not natural for me. All of my career I have been a centre back so it is about learning and always trying to get better.

“I played there a large chunk of last season and I am in the team, playing football, but we have got a lot of lads who are itching to play.

“We have got a great squad so everyone knows there is competition for places.

“We have got five centre-backs. There are going to be lots of lads who are disappointed. I am playing full-back and I am not arguing, sulking or moaning.

“I am just happy to be playing and doing my bit for the team.”

He has a good attitude to the team, and I'm glad he's found his way back into the first team. I see no reason to replace him with Courtney if he keeps up what he's been doing for the first few games.

What? He is not a full back and at best a poor centre back. And who is going to score the goals now Danny?? Season over!

Honest lad who always gives his all, but he isn't a right back. Defensively he copes, but not going forwards to assist in attack. Hope Courtney isn't the hot-headed baffoon he appeared to be against Kidderminster.

Danny is a solid and composed defender, once he gets going forward a bit more he will be a decent member of the team. Purkiss was the opposite, good going forward but poor in defence. I think with a bit of support from the crowd he could keep Courtney out of the team for a bit longer.

Here they go again. York City have been langushing in this Micky Mouse Soccer for the past 80 Years or More, & will be there for another so 80 years. There should be no Mention of a new Arena until This Micky Mouse Club dishes up some real Soccer.

the fact you refer to it as "Soccer" twice disqualifies you from expressing any opinion. We play football over here, not soccer. tosser
