Clifton Park success story keeps on rolling for York Cricket Club skipper Marcus Wood

A FIVE-POINT plan for success could come to fruition at York Cricket Club over the next fortnight.

The Clifton Parkers’ first team have already wrapped up a record fourth successive Solly Sports Yorkshire ECB County Premier League title and are chasing another first – an unbeaten campaign.

They travel to Scarborough tomorrow before completing their season next weekend at home to Castleford.

The seconds host Driffield II in division one of the Hunters York & District Senior League tomorrow looking to cement pole position in their penultimate fixture.

That feat could be matched by the club’s third team, who lead the way in division three ahead of tomorrow’s trip to Hovingham, while the fourths have already snared the division 5A crown.

Any chance of a title for the fifth string has disappeared in division five of the HPH York Vale League, but they will be aiming to seal the second promotion spot with a win at Tadcaster Magnet.

First team captain Marcus Wood is delighted to see success running through all levels of the club, with the junior section having also enjoyed a silverware-laden season.

“There is a potential clean sweep,” said Wood.

“The seconds have got some tough games left, as have the thirds, but it is great to see all the teams getting themselves in these positions.

“The junior section is also going very well, and we are managing to attract some good players to the club.

“It is all key to us going forward as a club.”

Although York’s first team are heading for an unbeaten season, Wood believes the opposition will raise their game.

“We all know we have had some close games and we know it’s going to be just as difficult,” he said.

“Other sides will be more determined to beat us. We need to strive to be better all the time.”

Wood will stand-in behind the stumps at North Marine Road tomorrow, with regular stumper Nigel Durham sitting out.

Pace bowler Peter Groves steps up from the seconds to take the new ball with Tom Bartram.
