I haven't been able to get to any of the pre season games but I have been encouraged by the reports I have seen, just one thing worries me though, we only seem to be able to score one goal a game and only if Brodie scores it. I just hope it's not going to be another season like the last one where we lived on one nil wins.

I would rather win one nil every game than not win at all.

I'm not too concerned about the pre-season results, they mean nothing to be honest, just a fitness workout.
The real business starts a fortnight today against Kiddy.

46 one nil wins and 46 goals for Brodie will be perfect!

You can get a long way by being very solid at the back and having the league's leading scorer!

So against League Opposition our record is W2 D1 L2... I'd take that pre-season!!

Impressed with the goals against rather than concerned with the goals for... well done lads, looking good!!

I know we are very solid at the back but my point is that if we had had another 10 to 15 goals from some where else last season we would probably have won the league . I just hope it doesn't cost us dearly again this time.

From what I have seen against some very decent footballing teams we have more than held our own. Mcdermott looks a great signing clever foootballer able to pick a shot out rather than blast, Gash & Rankine should get a few more not withstanding injuries & its down to MF & AP to get the squad chipping in from all areas. We also have the left & right back looking more attacking so I am quietly confident Brodes will nick us the tight games 1-0 and the squad will get a good number where we are more dominant. cmon city

I hope they are wrong but the Sunday People today prints an article saying - "Scunthorpe Utd are looking to replace the departed Gary Hooper on the cheap with a deal for prolific York City striker Richard Brodie 23, who was last seasons top scorer in the BSP" - It goes on to say that Scunthorpe will pay £100,000 up front, with bonus payments to follow, based on appearances and goals. This article is printed on page 57 of todays issue. I know you can not believe all you read in the papers but it sounds a bit cheap to me, what do other people think?.

a minimum of £250.000 in my opinion and that would hardly make a dent in the £2.4M Scunny have just received.
I hope Richard bangs in the goals to get us promoted then if he moves on for a big free good luck to him .
If we sold him for £100.000 now it would be a disgrace fine-fear

I very much doubt they would stump up £250,000 up front. More realistically it would be £100,000 up front with add ons taking the fee to around £200,000 in regard to appearances.

I wouldn't listen to paper talk if i were you lol how many stories have the papers made up that haven't happened ex. Drogba to city, Torres to chelsea/city, Cole to Real etc ALL TOTAL RUBBISH!
Martin Foyle isn't stupid and won't let Brodie go for any price at this stage of the transfer window as there is no time to spend the cash. I'm not saying Brodie is York City but he completes them. Rankine and Gash are both very good strikers but arn't going to get you 20 odd goals a season, as for Purcell its too early to judge but does look sharp.
Staying positive and can't wait till the 14th when Rankine will be partnered by Brodie upfront!!!

I heard from a decent source that Brodie was in with the board last tues and weds about a contract extension. Stumbling point is he wants to be paid the same as the top earners already at the club (ie Gash). He is on alot less than the players who have come in over the last 2 seasons.

As I posted on another string last week, Scunny have five strikers on their books. Two just signed from Accrington and Rochdale, another is Boyes and the others are Forte and Godden. The last thing they need is another striker who is untried at Championship level. That said, I don't much like my security word "iron-goal".

No you didn't, that is just a lie. Anyone who spills there coffe doesn't lol they would be annoyed and worried if it stained the carpet.

Encouraging performance yesterday but I also hear what other posters say regarding not scoring the goals. I also agree that this is pre-season against higher opposition so not sure how much to read into that. Hopefully a few can get on the score sheet in the next away game.

Five strikers with Boyes!! PMSL!! I will eat my hat if he progresses at Scunthorpe. Over rated and can't see what all the fuss was about IMO.

Oh come on Strensall- double the goals would certainly make us a lot safer. Why settle for second best. That's not the attitude!
