SIMON Dyson suffered a premature finish to his challenge in the 3 Irish Open after a woeful second day.
The world number 75’s bid to play across all four days of the European Tour event at the Killarney Golf and Fishing club was shattered by a calamitous outward nine yesterday.
Going into the second round protecting a healthy one-under-par 70 first-day score, the 32-year-old York-born ace was quickly in arrears with four consecutive bogeys from holes two to five.
A birdie on the seventh, matching that on the same hole on the first day, eased the pain, but he was back to four-over for the day when he dropped a shot on the par-three 171-yard tenth hole.
Though he birdied the par-five 16th for the second day on the spin, it was too little, too late as the Malton & Norton GC ace carded a three-over 74.
That left him two-over for the event with the half-way cut made at level par.
Next up for Dyson is the WGC Bridgestone International event in Ohio next week, and that is followed a week later by the final major of the season, the USPGA championship, at Whistling Straits in Wisconsin.
