SEVEN-a-SIDE specialists Ronin beat surprise package Malton & Norton RUFC to lift the Fowler Trophy at the 52nd Guinness Pock 7s.

Ronin, whose side included York forward Lee Denham, came from behind to defeat the Ryedale side 26-12 in the final.

Malton & Norton provided the biggest upset when they put out the holders, Fiji Covenant Brothers, 26-21 in the semis.

Ronin reached the final when KS Crusaders conceded their scheduled semi-final. A Ronin player broke a leg in the quarters against Sedbergh, and the Crusaders’ gesture allowed the Ronin players to stay on the pitch until an ambulance arrived.

Selby lost the Plate final to Hull, who fielded former Super League RL players Motu Tony and Tevita Vaikona.

In the inaugural women’s competition, York RI Old Girls romped to a 34-0 success over Hull.
