York City stay fifth in Blue Square Premier

Updated: YORK City received a boost following the postponement of Saturday’s home game with AFC Wimbledon when play-off rivals Rushden and Kettering both dropped points.

The Minstermen stayed in fifth place despite being forced out of action at the weekend when a waterlogged pitch caused their game to be called off at 1pm.

Fourth-placed Rushden, though, could only draw 2-2 at Altrincham while Kettering suffered a surprise 2-0 home defeat to relegation-threatened Forest Green.

Kettering remain two points behind City in sixth place and have now played two games more.

Wimbledon would have been without injured first-choice strikers Danny Kedwell and Nathan Elder for Saturday’s match and a new date for the fixture is yet to be announced.

The best solution would appear to be rescheduling the game for Saturday, April 17, when Wimbledon are without a fixture.

City are due to entertain Grays on that afternoon but it is a match that could be moved back to Tuesday, April 20 when neither side has a fixture arranged.

We’d look a little better placed in fifth spot if Mr Flett would award an extra point on the BSP table published on this site for the draw City earned last Saturday against Altrincham! It could be even tighter come Saturday 24 April if The Press site table is used!
