YORK City's home game against AFC Wimbledon in the Blue Square Premier has been postponed.

The game was called off after heavy rain left the Bootham Crescent surface unplayable.

There hasn't but the ground was soaking despite the dry week we've had. Before I travelled over I checked and nothing said it was off but got there and cancelled, rang me mam (who lives in York) and she says her garden is soden/underwater so no suprise really, just wish it had been called of before I got on the train

i am the only person who comments on here that saw the pitch today it was horrendous! not by fault of the groundsman at all but that thing called rain. ball could not roll on eith wing, goal mouth or centre circle - thus impossible for a game!

Good set of results for us today. R & D drew. Kettering lost. Of course, Luton smacked 6 2nd half goals and won. We need a positive result mid-week now. The sides around us also have tough games.....Keep the faith.

Shame City missed the chance to move up - Altrincham did us a favour by taking a point off R & Diamonds.
I got as far as Leeds on the M1 before turning on Radio York to find that the game was off. It didn't sink in at first (a bit like the rain) since I hadn't considered the possibility. I think it's unfair to criticise the groundsman, since the pitch needs a major (expensive) renovation which, presumably, hasn't been done because of the possibility of moving to a new ground, although that seems to be dragging on endlessly.

Had to feel sorry for the hundreds of AFC Wimbledon supporters who actually got to Bootham Crescent before finding out it was off. I walked into the club at 1.30 and was told it was off then, we have had a lot of rain over a twelve hour period but I never gave it a thought that it might be postponed. We must have a worst draining pitch than Harrogate Town, who played today. Rushden drawing was a bonus, as I thought they would beat Altrincham. Luton look like they could challenge both Stevenage and Oxford for the title.

Very unfair to blame the groundsman, especially with no evidence and especially as this is the first game to be called off in what has been a very hard winter. Oh and the CAPITALS - annoying, stop it!
The only area of concern is why such a late cancellation when there was seemingly no warning; no local media news of pitch inspections or anything. That was perhaps a little strange.

I am a Don who has lived in York for the last 4 years . I would just like to say on behalf of the hundreds of Dons fans who made the journey that the lateness of the decision was appalling. If the pitch was in as bad a state as at least one comment indicates the decision could have been made early enough to save most of the travelling fans a wasted journey and a lot of wasted money.
Still at least the fans got a day in York - it could have been Wrexham!!

Not sure it could have been called off earlier - doubtless the situation changed as the rain continued to come down. I would be surprised if the club knew the game was likely to be off by mid-morning, which was when most Dons fans would have set off. What does surprise me though was that there was no talk of possible inspections.

Big shame no doubt much scratching of heads to re schedule. To be fair to groundsman pitch got scalped at christmas clearing snow and wont get any better until its warm enough to grow & recover. City could do with thinking ahead & buying some decent snow shovels rather than broom handles with boards attached that a lot of fans were given to help on the day. Like a lot of others weve all been here before travelled to find games called off and to be fair to city they have usually done the right thing. Come on City!!
