Acorn runners’ high Noon lift

York Acorn Running Club made a promising start to the English Championship Noonstone fell race, near Halifax.

Hosted by Todmorden Harriers, the race attracted 423 runners to its nine-mile course with 2,300 feet of ascent in boggy conditions.

Piran White was first home in 105th place (27th M40), while Andy Normandale was 129th (tenth M50).

Martin Perry and Matthew Driscoll got their first taste of a championship fell race finishing in 182nd and 195th place respectively. Ian Smallwood was 200th (36th M45).
