York City’s fans have key role to play in promotion push

YORK City’s supporters have a “major part” to play as the side look to secure a top-five place at the end of the season, according to manager Martin Foyle.

Five of the club’s remaining nine matches will be played at Bootham Crescent, kicking off with tomorrow’s home clash against play-off rivals AFC Wimbledon.

Relegation-threatened quartet Tamworth (March 27), Eastbourne (April 10), Barrow (April 13) and Grays (April 17) will then travel to North Yorkshire before the Minstermen wrap up the season at Stevenage on April 24.

City were unbeaten in 23 home matches prior to back-to-back defeats against Eastbourne and Salisbury during their last two Bootham Crescent outings and Foyle is hoping the fans can now help the team over the finishing line.

The City chief said: “We need to get our home form back on track. Our fans were outstanding at Altrincham and Mansfield and that helps.

“The players respond to the positive support and, at this time of the season when you get a lot of nervous football because the rewards are so big, the crowd can really play a major part.”

Should that be Altrincham on 5th at home and Eastbourne on 10th away?

That's fine from Martin providing the performances are as good as on Tuesday night but don't expect us to be supporting positively if we are subject to the dross of the last 2 home games.

That's right Colin, because when the team are struggling, the best way to help them is to moan, groan and boo them.

How about backing them, encouraging them, supporting them? I will be at BC tomorrow at 3pm giving the team my full support, come what may. Shame we can't say the same thing for everyone...

Exactly Michelle. We are all together as a team when winning and should be all together as a team when losing.

Saying that Colin has a right to his own opinion and to voice it, even though the likes of you, I and countless others may not agree with him he obviously wants the same as other supporters of the club................
.......that is City to succeed.

Yes Colin. Like most supporters, I support the team and hope for success - not support the team only on condition of them achieving success. By support, I specifically mean "give support".

As HoBC rightly pointed out, you have a right to your opinion and to voice it. I just hope that you will realise one of these days that by venting your personal frustration directly at the team, you give your own team a disadvantage.

Good luck lads. From what I saw in the away fixture, Wimbledon are well-organised and hard to break down. However, looking at our recent performances (not necessarily the results, but the performances), we have the calibre to sneak a victory.
