Striker Ben Janes shoots Skelton into last four of Senior Challenge Trophy

MARKSMAN Ben Janes bagged four goals as Skelton stormed into the semi-finals of the Ian’s Cars of Barlby Senior Challenge Trophy.

Janes’ haul helped Skelton to a 9-2 win over York Nomads in the quarter-finals of the York Sunday Morning Football League competition.

Chris Holmes and Josh Leening scored two apiece and Neale Holmes also netted, while Nomads could only manage a penalty from Paul Stimpson and a Chris Smith strike.

Severus also breezed into the semi-finals, seeing off Hambleton 6-0 with goals from Dean Walker, Mark Woodward, Pete Mullen, Darren Sellars and Joe Deppa (2).

Hounds came from behind to beat Derwent United 3-1 after extra time.

Man-of-the-match Dean Readman gave United a 1-0 half-time lead, but Hounds levelled in normal time and goals from Rob Baker and Dave Bradshaw put them through.

Stand-in goalkeeper Darren Brandon was the Wanderers penalty shoot-out hero as they beat Copmanthorpe 4-3 on spot-kicks.

The injured striker kept a clean sheet in normal time, before saving and scoring in the shoot-out.

Acomb WMC beat Station 6-1 in the Junior Challenge Cup, thanks to a hat-trick from Danny Gray.

Anthony Evans, Neil Ducey and Matty Horner also scored, while Steve Lyon netted for Station.

St John trounced Barlby 11-1, with four-goal James Sharp backed by brace aces Graham Bell, Michael Warnes and Scott McKenzie. Joe Brown also scored for the students, while Lee Carter was Barlby’s lone scorer.

Bishopthorpe booked a place in the semi-final draw after a 3-1 at New Earswick. Andy Manns (2) and Ben Smith were the Bish scorers.

In the league, Enterprise eased their division one relegation fears with a 7-0 win over Cliffe.

There were hat-tricks for Andy Nicholson and Danny Penrose, plus a goal for Andy Holt.

In division two, Acomb Celtic lost 3-2 at home to Marcia Grey.

Mike South, Andy Mason and Roger Lorains scored for Grey, with Sean Stockdale and Joe Woof getting the Celtic goals.

Albion Vaults were 4-2 victors over Cueball, whose scorers were Tom Wheatland and Andy Thompson.

Wigginton moved off the bottom after beating Acorn 4-1. Ben Coates scored twice in the first half and second-half goals from Steve Jarvis and Neil Walker sealed it. Acorn’s goal came from Dave White.

Division three strugglers Acomb Athletic posted their first win. Goals from Ash North, Danny White, Arron North, Adam Craven and Glyyn Ellwood saw them beat leaders Hambleton Lions 5-3. Lions replied with two goals from Stuart Pea and a Paul Humprey strike.

In division four north, Leeman United’s 7-1 win at Cueball Reserves saw them close the gap on leaders Acomb WMC to six points with two games in hand.

United’s marksmen were Daniel Moore, Liam Stilgoe, Daniel Midgely, Jamie Moore (2) and Jamie Doors (2). Craig Nichol replied.

Callum Longhorne hit a hat-trick as Forest won 6-1 against Linton-on-Ouse, whose lone goal was scored by Ken McKenzie. Paul West, Neil Gaines and Mark Pragnell also scored for Forest.

Raskelf hit back from 4-0 down at the break to beat Dynamo Megahorse 5-4. Dynamo took charge with goals from Wayne Langan and Rich Parry plus two own goals.

Andy Metcalf led the fightback with two goals, while Tom Hilling, Dean Hagland and Josina Williams also got on the scoresheet.

Matty Curotto’s two goals were in vain as Selby RSSC lost 3-2 at home to Hemingbrough, who had Michael Young, Jon Collard and Luke Zacharenko on target.

Division four south leaders Dunnington beat hosts Fox 6-3 with goals from Karl Hetherington, Dave Potter and Rob Hart, plus a John Wormald hat-trick. Fox hit back with a hat-trick from Danen Shutt.

Lee Ward hit a hat-trick as Huntsman beat Turf Tavern 6-1.

Jim Holroyd, Simon White and man-of-the-match Gary Pearson also scored.

Acomb Albion beat LNER Builders 4-3, with goals from Wayne Haigh, Marc Stockdale and Carl Harris (2).

Tudor Carrington (2) and Shaun Whincup netted for the Builders.
