New Earswick All Blacks ARLC win bolsters survival bid


BATTLING New Earswick All Blacks ARLC beat Kippax Welfare 23-14 to bolster their Pennine League premier division survival bid.

The White Rose Avenue side are now three points clear of the relegation zone in sixth place.

Kippax took the lead on 13 minutes with a converted try, but All Blacks responded five minutes later when prop Alan Pallister crossed under the sticks and winger Carl Fernandez converted.

Substitute prop Jack Stearman then crashed over and Fernandez added the extras.

On the stroke of half-time, New Earswick extended the lead as centre Steve Perks powered over.

The Fernandez conversion made it 18-6.

Kippax narrowed the gap to eight points with a try, but Fernandez kicked a penalty and man-of-the-match Ben Jones added a drop goal for an 11-point lead with ten minutes remaining.

Kippax scored an unconverted try, but a Fernandez penalty secured victory for New Earswick.

New Earswick ‘A’ are closing on promotion for the third season in a row after a 40-24 win over Guiseley in division five.

All Blacks trailed 24-12 at half-time after tries from centres Tom Dale and Dean Layton, and sub Dan Fairclough After the break, Fairclough completed his hat-trick and there were also touch downs for Nathan Tupman, Ben Cooper and Jack Law. Man-of-the-match Fairclough kicked four conversion.

Neither Selby Warriors side had a fixture at the weekend.

Man-of-the-match Criag Fox boasted a haul of 36 points as York Acorn ‘A’ crushed Mirfield 88-0 in CMS Yorkshire League division two.

Fox scored a hat-trick of tries and kicked 12 goals, and he was well backed by stand-off Steve Doswell, scrum-half Kenny Shepherd and player-coach Kevin Brundrett.

The other Acorn try scorers were Denis Wellard, Mark Sanderson, Doswell, Shepherd (2), Martin McTigue, Stephen Waldron (2), John Tattersfield, Adam Sellars, Karl Harrison and Brundrett, who also kicked two goals.

Heworth ‘A’ edged closer to relegation following a 60-26 home defeat to Featherstone Lions.

Heworth raced into a 12-0 lead with tries from Joe Murphy and Craig Richardson, both goaled by Adam Jobling.

But the Lions then took control to produce some fine flowing rugby and build a 32-12 interval lead.

The young Villagers side, including five of the under-18s team, registered second-half tries through Murphy, Gary Watkinson and Jobling, who also added his third goal, to pull back to 42-26 before the Lions responded.
