Coneysthorpe ‘A’ underlined their title challenge with a whitewash of two-man University ‘A’ in division one of the NEDL and District Table Tennis League, writes John Temple.

However, it was not enough to depose leaders, Sessions ‘A’, who also whitewashed Shepherds ‘A’.

Coneysthorpe ‘B’ overcame Holgate ‘A’ 7-3, and then edged out University ‘A’ 6-4.

Holgate ‘D’ conceded two sets but managed to claim a draw against fellow relegation strugglers Shepherds ‘B’, despite a fine display from Dave Simpson in division two.

Simpson was also the star as he led his side to a crucial 7-3 win at BT ‘A’ who have now been sucked into the relegation battle.

Luke Blackburn was in top form as he led leaders Railway ‘A’ to an 8-2 success over Sessions ‘B’.

Ady McLaren was unbeaten as Bootham ‘B’ overcame Bootham ‘C’ 7-3, and then beat promotion rivals Holgate ‘C’ by the same score despite Ed Wardman winning his singles for the losers.

Keith Elsegood saw Sessions ‘B’ to an 8-2 win over NEDL/Bootham.

Bootham ‘D’ are emerging as a real promotion threat in division three and they thumped Shepherds ‘E’ 9-1 with John Lloyd, Matt Ayres and Richard Collyer too good.
