NO ONE will have a better chance of getting off to the best possible start than North Yorkshire swing-king Simon Dyson in today’s World Golf Championship tournament in America.
World number 64 Dyson has been given the distinction of teeing off the first shot in the second WGC event of the year when he is first out at the Doral Golf and Country Club in Florida.
The 33-year-old Dyson is paired with American Jason Duffner and Italy’s Edoardo Molinari in a round due to start at 4.25pm British time.
The tournament, which carries a total prize fund of $8,500,000, features a 68-strong field that is only missing world number one Tiger Woods in terms of quality.
The immediate target for Dyson will be to improve on his last WGC appearance when he was knocked out in the first round in Arizona last month.
However, that was a match-play format and the Doral event comprises four days of strokeplay, without a midway cut.
That will mean a huge boost to the Malton and Norton GC star who will be able to sample more of the particular demands of the American circuit ahead of his appearance in the first Major of the season, the US Masters at Augusta from April 8 to 11.
