YORK Indoor Bowls Club’s women enjoyed success in the individual team competitions at national level as both won their area play-off finals against Cumbria.

Helen Walker, Lynda Parker and Joyce Chelin beat Elena Gass’ team in a tense finish with a three on the last end to finish 20-17 in the Over-50s Two-wood Triples.

Carol Instone and Joan Jackson swept away Ann Henderson’s Unbadged Pairs team, with their Cumbrian foes conceding with three ends to play at 31-12.

Both York teams will play in the national finals at Nottingham IBC next month.

Yorkshire’s attempt to make the Liberty Trophy final ended as they lost 127-85 to Durham at Stanley IBC.

The game got out of reach between the fifth and tenth ends when the aggregate scores went from 31-15 to 71-26.

Only one rink won for the White Rose county – that being Mark Walton’s, who trailed 17-16 with four ends to go but won them all to earn a 21-17 victory.

York’s ladies are on the verge of winning the Yorkshire League for the eighth straight season after beating leaders Thornaby 97-55, and netting eight of ten points.

At home, Maureen Thomas’s rink only lost four ends throughout their game to finish 29-9 and Melanie Brookes’ rink won comfortably 26-12.

Away, Linda Harrison’s team won 29-9, while Carol Instone’s team were made to pay for dropping seven shots on the first two ends and they went down 25-13.

York look to secure the Yorkshire League title when they play their last game of the season against North Cave on Saturday, at noon.

New Earswick women faced a tough task with two games in the North Eastern League against Scarborough then North Cave.

They easily won the first 94-78, but lost the second 89-66.

Against Scarborough, the home rink of Pat Walker gained an excellent 35-17 victory, but Kath Hardcastle’s team lost 27-11.

Away, Kath Sykes’ team were level at 8-8 after ten ends but won 29-11, while Diane Hardy’s went down 23-19.

Against North Cave there was only one winning rink. Maureen Woods’ team rallied from 7-4 down after eight ends to win 24-11.
