In-form York RI ladies top tree stay top of York Badminton League


York RI ‘A’ confirmed their leading status in York Badminton League ladies one with a 6-3 away win over close rivals Clifton ‘A’.

Heather Clarke and Karen Anderson took all three Clifton wins in a tremendous display, but RI hit back to win the match in the seventh rubber.

St John hit good away form in ladies two to record a 5-4 win over Huntington and a similar success over Selby Jubilee. Nikki Hainsworth and Claire Bird starred against Huntington, while Joy Wang and Sally Ann Travers were prominent against Jubilee.

Huntington suffered a further reverse when they visited University Students and lost 8-1.

Jenny Eyres and Claire Breare top-scored for the campus side, while Bev Tebbutt and Angie Hobman picked up the consolation.

Riverside hit good form to record an 8-1 win at Tadcaster 86 in men’s one. Craig Dobson and Andrew Newby were the pick of the visitors’ pairs.

Selby Jubilee ‘A’ made it three wins from six games in men’s two with a superb 5-4 away win over Shepherds. The result was decided in the seventh when Pete Murphy and Mike Stevens beat Paul Nichol and James Pearson.

University Staff beat Knavesmire 7-2 in men’s three. Richard Mounce and Peter Huang led the way.

University Students ‘C’ made it nine wins in a row with an emphatic 9-0 home victory over Selby Jubilee ‘B’. Rory Muse and Ollie Metcalf were on top form.

York RI ‘B’ were 9-0 away winners over Terry’s men’s three. Peter Howes and Richard Morley played well for the league leaders.

Clifton ‘C’ lost 8-1 to Selby/Drax ‘A’ in mixed one.

Riverside ‘A’ made it five from five in mixed two with a 7-2 away win over Rowntrees. Craig Dobson and Trish Fowler top-scored.

University Students ‘B’ are unbeaten after eight matches in mixed three, their latest win an 8-1 success against Huntington ‘A’.

Tadcaster ’86 ‘B’ grabbed the top spot in mixed four with an 8-1 home win over Fulfordgate.
