Acomb Hockey Club men’s first XI routed visiting Rotherham 3rds for an emphatic 6-2 Yorkshire division three victory.
The Tangerines were always in control right from the time Matt Dickenson’s powerful drag-flick from a penalty corner soared into the visitors’ net after ten minutes. He doubled the lead when firing home an Ian Roberton cross.
After half-time, Matt Gray converted Acomb’s third to round off a flowing move started by the outstanding Paul Kellet in defence.
Gray struck the fourth from a tight angle before a shot from Dickenson found its way in to give him his first league hat-trick.
Skipper Nick Linfoot slapped in the Tangerines’ sixth at the back post.
IN contrast to the first XI, Acomb men’s seconds crashed 6-1 to division eight table-toppers Bingley Bees.
Acomb were on the back foot from the start conceding from a short corner after ten minutes followed by a well-worked routine to make it 2-0. The Tangerines showed a spark and Harry Ellis halved the deficit with a reverse sweep.
But the Bees had plenty of sting in their tail and just before the interval regained their two-goal lead.
The second half went the way of the first, though a rasping shot from Paul Yoward almost yielded a second away goal.
