ACOMB arrows ace Chris Thompson claimed his first major scalp of 2010 when he dumped world number six Mervyn King out of the Gibraltar Players Championship.
Thompson beat two-time world championship finalist and Premier League runner-up King 6-2 in the first round and went on to whitewash 2004 UK Open winner Roland Scholten.
The St Paul’s player missed out on a place in the last 16, however, when he succumbed to former world champion Ritchie Burnett, going down 6-2.
Mitre’s John Quantock, meanwhile, lost 6-4 to 2009 world championship quarter-finalist Paul Nicholson after knocking out Jeremy Cruz (6-2) and Michael Schmidt (6-0).
Martyn Turner, of Rawcliffe, fell at the first hurdle, losing 6-1 to Steve Brown.
In the StanJames.com Eddie Cox Memorial Trophy, Thompson beat Steve Evans (6-3) and 1996 World Masters winner Colin Monk (6-2) before bowing out to world number four Terry Jenkins (6-1) in the second round.
Quantock was edged out 6-5 by one-time UK Open finalist Vincent van der Voort while Turner lost to Mark Lawrence 6-3.
