Goalkeeper Hopkins excels for City of York Hockey Club ladies against Durham

City of York Hockey Club ladies’ first XI lost 2-0 to hosts Durham University 2nds, the North League first division leaders.

As expected Durham were a well-practiced team and applied pressure quickly, their forwards causing problems for York’s defence and taking an early lead from open play.

York found their feet and their defence stepped up to made it very difficult for Durham’s forwards to threaten.

Goalkeeper Dawn Hopkins pulled off some key saves and player-of-the-match Lauren Boddison prevented any player getting past.

York gradually built up play to create chances, missing one golden opportunity to level.

Durham seemed to be settling for the 1-0 win which allowed York to take control, but the hosts then bagged a second in the last five minutes from a short corner routine to send York home empty-handed.
