HISTON striker Danny Wright may not be fit in time for York City’s visit to the Glass World Stadium tonight.
The six-goal forward was substituted with a back problem during the Stutes’ 2-0 defeat at home to Luton last Wednesday night and manager Alan Lewer is fearful he will not have recovered in time.
But Lewer should be able to welcome back experienced defender Adam Tann, who also limped off early in the second period of that defeat to the Hatters.
His Achilles injury is not as bad as first feared and he could well line up against the Minstermen.
The Histon boss, who has only been fully in charge a month since the departure of Steve Fallon, was expected to be on a deadline day transfer raid to bring new additions into the squad.
With last Saturday’s match against Tamworth postponed because of their involvement in the FA Trophy, Lewer was looking at potential signings at the Salisbury v Maidstone clash.
One who shouldn’t be on the list is former Histon forward Antonio Murray, who spent three seasons at the club, and who is a free agent after being deemed surplus to requirements at Blue Square South chargers Chelmsford.
Lewer has admitted he is a fan, but isn’t thinking about bringing him back to the club.
The need to bring in new faces was also increased by striker Michael Frew’s probable departure.
Having failed to settle since a move from Cambridge City in pre-season, Corby Town – who fell 1-0 to York in the Trophy at the weekend – have made an inquiry to take the player on loan with a view to a permanent deal.
Histon, who lost 3-1 to City when the sides met at Bootham Crescent earlier in the season, are in 14th place with 34 points from 26 games.
Former York loan defender Janos Kovacs scored on his debut to put Luton on their way to victory over Histon at the weekend – a defeat coming on the back of a thumping 3-0 loss at Salisbury.
The Stutes last won on January 19 when they appeared to have cruised to a 3-0 Trophy victory over Maidstone, but they were subsequently turfed out of the competition for fielding an ineligible player in their first round win.
Only Wrexham and Tamworth and Altrincham have scored fewer goals among Blue Square Premier’s top 17 teams than Histon’s 30 and their top scorer, Josh Simpson, has seven.
YORK City have made two previous vists to Histon.
In February 2008, they went down 3-1 and the corresponding fixture last term ended 1-1 with Richard Brodie – who is suspended tonight – the scorer.
The line-up for that game on December 9, 2008, was: Ingham (Mimms), Purkiss, Parslow, McGurk, McWilliams, Hogg, Greaves, Rusk, Smith (Farrell), Brodie, Sodje (McBreen).
It happened on February 2
1957: City recorded their biggest ever win when they beat Southport 9-1 at Bootham Crescent with Arthur Bottom notching four goals. The other marksmen were Norman Wilkinson (2), Gordon Brown, Peter Wragg and Billy Fenton. The attendance was 8,801 and City were ninth in Divison Three North.
1982: A 0-0 draw at Bootham Crescent against Bury. It was the tenth home game without a win and City were in the lower reaches of the Fourth Division.
1985: A crowd of 10,948 (boosted by issuing of vouchers for tickets for forthcoming FA Cup tie against Liverpool) saw City defeat Wigan Athletic at Bootham Crescent with Gary Ford and Alan Pearce on target. City were seventh in the Third Division (League One).
2003: Jon Parkin and Lee Bullock scored in a 2-1 home win over Macclesfield Town in front of 4,009 and City were ninth in the Third Division (League Two).
