YORK Acorn ARLC secured two vital points with a hard-earned 14-0 win over a gritty West Hull outfit in the National Conference premier division.

All the points came in the first half at Thanet Road, with prop Davey Burns starting the ball rolling for the Blue and Golds.

Burns ran the perfect angle to storm over at the side of the posts with only five minutes on the clock.

Centre Kyle Palmer kicked the conversion for a 6-0 lead.

The next score came on 15 minutes when Darren Callaghan’s astute kick over the West Hull defence saw winger Leigh Rientoul squeeze in at the corner flag for a fine try.

The game breaker came on 25 minutes when a brilliant 40-20 kick by loose-forward Jonny Liddell put Acorn in a superb position.

The hosts took full advantage from the scrum, with quick hands putting Palmer in for an unconverted try and a 14-0 lead.

The remainder of the game was dour but hard fought, with both defences dominating.

The pick of the victorious Acorn players were man of the match Andy Gargan, at hooker, props Burns and Lee Frank and substitute forward Steve Ramsey, who marked his home debut with a good stint in defence.

West Hull full-back Stuart Brentano and centre Dave Kemp worked tirelessly in a losing cause as Acorn joined a posse of clubs on 12 points.

Meanwhile, division one basement boys Heworth went down 42-12 at Bradford Dudley Hill – their 12th defeat of a difficult campaign.

The Villagers were blown away in the first half as they trailed 28-0, their hosts running in five tries and kicking four goals.

The second half started in much the same vein, with Dudley Hill adding another unconverted score on 52 minutes.

However, that sparked the visitors into life and Mike Crossman went over after sidestepping a couple of would-be tacklers in the 57th minute. Ben Potter converted.

Seven minutes later centre Jason Roach crossed after a pass from Carl Potter and Ben Potter again added the extras.

However, the home side bagged two more tries to seal the points.

Tom Dunmore impressed at full-back for Heworth, while scrum-half Craig Richardson and prop Carl Potter also caught the eye.
