TWO of Nestlé Rowntree RUFC’s backs scored tries on their debut in a 20-14 win over Thirsk.
Trees’ starting XV included 11 players recruited since the sides last met a year ago and they showed good teamwork to put over flanker Rich Roberts for a try after 20 minutes.
Jack Daniels converted and then added a penalty.
Thirsk made the most of their first scoring opportunity at the end of the half when a penalty rebounded and they re-gathered for flanker Oliver Hoxley-Hancombe to score from a driving maul. Nick Wilson converted.
Centre Jack Gabitass, 18, capped a fine first start with a try in the corner but Thirsk closed the gap to a point when number eight James Duggleby crashed over under the posts for Wilson to convert.
Nestlé finished the stronger with debutant winger Lewis Knight showing nifty footwork to beat three players and touch down in the corner.
