TEN-MAN Copmanthorpe were unable to halt the march of York Minster Engineering Football League premier division leaders Haxby United.

Cop have won three of the last four against United and they held their visitors in a goalless first half, going closest to scoring when they hit a post.

However, the arrival of Haxby top scorer Darren Brandon as a second half substitute changed the game.

After replacing the injured Ash Hill, the pacy Brandon curled the ball home from 25 yards to break the deadlock on 55 minutes.

A trip in the box then led to a red card for Cop and Gary Newton crashed the ball home from the spot to make it 2-0 after 62 minutes.

A defence-splitting pass from Newton allowed Steve Rambridge to stab the ball past the ’keeper on 70 minutes.

Ex-York City midfielder Marc Thompson then headed a fourth on 78 minutes.

With five minutes remaining, Neale Holmes wandered through the Copmanthorpe defence and side-footed a fifth.

Haxby have won all seven of their games to be ahead of Dunnington on goal difference, with two games in hand. Dunnington beat hosts Riccall 1-0, while third-placed Kartiers were 1-0 winners at Wilberfoss.

Fifth-placed Wigginton completed a double over Selby side Tate & Lyle with a 4-2 victory at Mill Lane.

Adam Jenkins opened the scoring for the home side in the first minute and Tom Coates doubled their advantage after 24 minutes.

Wigginton went into cruise mode, allowing T&L to get a goal back on the stroke of half-time. The away side equalised shortly after the break.

However, Lee Stewart was brought down by the Selby ’keeper in the 65th minute and Coates made no mistake from the spot for his sixth of the season.

Wigginton sealed it two minutes from time through Lee Fisher. Hamilton Panthers picked up their third win, beating Dringhouses 4-1.

Division one leaders Malton & Norton were 3-0 home winners over Amotherby & Swinton.

Under-strength Stamford Bridge were trounced 5-0 at Hemingbrough United in round one of the East Riding Junior Cup.

In Reserve ‘B’, Heworth played out a 1-1 draw with visitors Stamford Bridge.

Ben Andrews put Stamford ahead on 50 minutes from the penalty spot.

Heworth then netted a penalty and Bridge defender Tony Downing was red-carded for the challenge. Stamford then had Scott Fieldhouse sent off for foul and abusive language.
