Manager Martin Foyle hails York City strike duo Richard Brodie and Michael Gash

YORK City strikers Richard Brodie and Michael Gash were lauded after hitting the target again in the 2-0 home victory over Crawley.

Brodie has now netted four times and Gash twice since the duo were first paired together in the first of three consecutive Blue Square Premier victories at Gateshead.

A sixth-minute penalty by Brodie took his tally to five for the season while Gash secured the points on ten minutes with a clever shot on the turn after receiving the ball from his striking partner with his back to goal.

Manager Martin Foyle said: “Richard Brodie did fantastically well for the penalty and stuck it away. Michael Gash then got a good goal too.

“They are doing well together because Michael leads the line very well and Richard looks to hit the flanks. Their centre halves could not cope with them and their manager made a substitution at half-time because of that. The goals were outstanding and they had some great service as well.”

Brodie was also fulsome in his praise for Alex Lawless, who he described as “flawless”, alongside central midfield partner Neil Barrett.

He said: “The midfield two worked really well together and picked up the second balls. Alex Lawless was flawless and he should be playing in the Football League.

Got to the ground late and missed both goals! What I did see was: 1. In imperious Alex Lawless - first-class ball-winning, ball-retention and distribution. 2. In Ferrell, a blood-and-guts 'spoiler' performance, equalled by some promising attacking-play. 3. A captain who never looked 100% confident in his touches, yet rarely made a wrong move, partnered with a real gem of a find in central defence. 4. Adam Smith doing exactly what we all knew he could, until his positional switch just before half time. 5. A strong front-line blossoming. Gash has the awareness and strength to develop passages of play despite blatant rough-house defending from Crawley. 6. A hit-and-miss performance for Meredith - some iffy distribution, but did anyone else notice that he won six consecutive aerial challenges against that giant number 9? 7. Good movement and weight-of-passing all round. All-in-all, I came away seeing no goals but clear signs of quality and the feeling of £17 well-spent . Let's have more of the same!

it was a very good 1st half performance, 2nd half was comfortable as crawley were pretty dreadful and i don't remember a shot on target at any stage of the match.
don't change a winning team, but Mackin for Barrett might be an option as I though Lawless had a lot of work to do to keep the ball in midfield.
Brodie and Gash looked good together, linked up well with Smithy.
Another 3 points tomorrow would be nice before our first 'big game' of the season v Kettering.

No idea what Martin Foyle was talking about with his attack on local media in the programme. They've hardly been unsuportive - often they've been blindly optimistic even when the performances on the pitch said otherwise.

Can anybody copy out what was written in the programme? - Afraid I couldn't make it on Saturday. And could he have been referring to the negativity from the comments here??! Thanks

I dont think that Martin Foyle should even consider changing the starting line-up at Barrow. "If it aint broken leave it alone" is the slogan. Not that I think everything is perfect about the team, for both full backs often seem to lack defensive quality, but as long as its working, leave well alone.

Can't argue with any of that. Their centre forward was atrocious; as you say Meredith consistently beat him in the air despite giving away a few inches in height.
Lawless is a class act and, having initially described Ferrell as a stuart Elliott-alike, I am now being forced to eat my words; the fella can really play.
For the first time in a long time we also seem to have decent options on the bench and, whilst there is undoubted competition for places, the spirit in the squad seems great.
Whilst I'm not getting carried away, it all amounts to a mighty relief from last season already.

Just read on ycfc.net that some 'fan' has been distributing forged tickets.
Must be a bright spark if he expects to make loads of money. Sophie's comments say it all. Nob.

Folye claims Lawless should be playing in the football league. He's right, but he shouldn't be saying it to the media. We don't want to alert scouts from rival clubs!!!

You can listen to the game on:
http://news.bbc.co.u
k/local/york/hi/tv_a
nd_radio/
then click listen live.
.
Nothing wrong with telling the local rag how good a player is. Lets face it - they're not exactly the national media, and most clubs will be aware of the decent conference players through their scouting networks.
