MIDFIELD mainstay Levi Mackin is aiming to extract a profitable toll from his return trip to Wrexham.

So declared York City manager Martin Foyle as he, Mackin and goalkeeper Michael Ingham go back to their former club tonight striving to build on the Minstermen’s first win of the season at home to Forest Green.

Foyle said the return would be an emotional one for the trio, with Mackin, pictured, at the core of what the City boss hopes will be a positive result at the Racecourse Ground.

Said Foyle: “You always like to go back to a former club and get a good result and I am certain Levi will think he has a point to prove.

“What he has to remember is that he must keep a level head and not get carried away by the occasion.

“To be honest, the lad has shown he can play well in the centre of midfield and you sometimes forget that he is only 22 years of age. The way he has performed in the pre-season and the start of the season you would think he was 26 or 27.

“He is part of a relatively young squad here and they have to grow up fairly quickly.”

A key to City getting their first away points of the campaign after the season’s opener at Oxford United ended unluckily with a 2-1 defeat at Oxford, who bagged two agonisingly late goals, was keeping the Robins’ home support quiet.

The Racecourse Ground can be an intimidating venue once the locals get their dander up, as Foyle, who this time last year was assistant to then Wrexham manager Brian Little, acknowledged.

“I thoroughly enjoyed my time there,” he said. “Now it would be great to go back and get something. We know we are going to have to concentrate on what we do and also on keeping a solid shape. It’s going to be a tough game.

“But part of my team talk will be about silencing the crowd. If you can keep them quiet for the first 20 minutes or so then they can get on their own team’s case.”

Winger Adam Smith, whose introduction from the bench into a more orthodox striking role yielded his first goal of the season and confirmed the breaking of Forest Green’s resistance, may not start as he has been struck by sciatica which restricted his involvement in training on the eve of tonight’s game.

He might well have to be content to be among the substitutes with very little change otherwise planned by Foyle ahead of the trek to north Wales.

“The attitude of lads like Smith, Craig Nelthorpe and Richard Brodie, who all came off the bench against Forest Green to give us some extra impetus has been first-class,” added the City leader. “They need to know that this is not about an 11-man game. The whole squad has got to be involved and be ready.”
