YORKSHIRE Day brought back memories of last year’s soggy August when, for the first time this season, the Hunters York & District Senior Cricket League programme was decimated as widespread rain prevented any play in all but a handful of games.

Only one game was played out to a conclusion when division one leaders Studley Royal defeated bottom-placed Pocklington by six wickets.

Visiting Pocklington took first innings and made 162-6 with Ian Camwell (44) and Alex Downey (53) both showing good form as Andy Mackle claimed 3-43 for the home side.

Studley then became the only side to complete a second innings when they moved to a winning score of 163-4 with Rob Nicholson hitting 58, Anthony Mackle 27 and Rob Mackle an unbeaten 25 to seal an 11th win of the season and extend their lead to 40 points.

The bottom two sides in the premier division both saw some action but neither were able to garner any valuable extra points.

The most play in the division was at Easingwold, where Beverley reached 148-8 in 28 overs before the game was abandoned with two overs of the first innings still to be bowled. Ollie Grantham made 52 and Sam Bardon 34 in Beverley’s total with home bowlers Steve Piercy 4-69 and Jonathon Marwood 4-38 sharing the spoils.

At Clifton Alliance, Hornsea’s overseas player Adam Dilley got to 30 not out in 14 overs of play during which his side had reached 65-2.

In Whitkirk, 16 overs of play were possible during which Sewerby made 69-2 with Chris Briggs unbeaten on 27 before the adverse weather set in.

Carlton Towers’ batsmen had an enjoyable day at North Marine Road where they totalled 207-8 against Scarborough.

Jonathon Dilks led the way with 89, while Jamie Pocklington weighed in with 45. Ash Kundhi was the most successful home bowler with 3-27 and Tom Pateman took 2-65.

Scarborough’s reply was a six-over affair during which they lost two wickets for 24.

Only 17 overs of play were possible at Beverley, where the home side scored 62-3 against Dringhouses. Rob Todd made 29.
