Norton jockey Jamie Kyne seeks Ayr success with Tom Tower

Tom Tower, who scored on his comeback run at Ayr last month, returns to the Scottish venue tomorrow with every chance of proving that his 20-1 success was no fluke.

Trained by Alistair Whillans, Tom Tower will again be partnered by crack Norton-based apprentice Jamie Kyne, who steered the gelding to an all the way success on his latest start.

Tom Tower, who has had a breathing problem rectified since last season, looks an improved horse as a result, and although he has to overcome a hike in his rating tomorrow, he is fancied to dominate once more.

Serena Brotherton teams up with Toy Top in the toteexacta Amateur Riders’ Handicap and the Michael Dods-trained mare is napped to prevail.

A winner two starts ago at Thirsk, Toy Top narrowly failed to beat her stable-mate Twosheetstothewind on a return visit to that course on her latest outing. She has a big chance here of resuming winning ways.

The Unison Maiden Stakes, for juveniles, looks an interesting contest and another chance is given to Count Bertoni.

Tom Tate’s youngster ran a fine first race to finish second at Newcastle, but he was unable to fulfil that initial promise after a tardy start next time at Doncaster.

Count Bertoni does, though, remain a potential winner and he is marginally preferred to Richard Fahey’s Layla’s Boy, who shaped well on his debut at Hamilton over six furlongs and who will relish this longer trip.

Ifatfirst, a Hamilton winner two outings ago, did not enjoy the run of the race when a beaten favourite here a couple of weeks ago when finishing fourth to Chookie Heiton.

He deserves another chance in the totequadpot Handicap on behalf of Jim Goldie, whose Grand Diamond is also of interest in the Campbelltown Bat Stewart Scott Memorial Handicap, in which Goldie also saddles the useful Stellite.

Pedregal can be another Goldie winner in the opening toteplacepot Handicap.

At Market Rasen’s jumping fixture, North Yorkshire trainer Alan Swinbank could be a man to follow.

Swinbank has bright prospects with two prolific winners, Shiwawa, who bids for a hat-trick in the Don Noble Bookmakers Novices’ Hurdle, and Paint The Clouds, who is also going for triple-honours in the Don Noble National Hunt Flat Race.

Also worth noting at the Lincolnshire venue is the fit-from the Flat Hi Dancer (3.20) and Tempsford (3.50), who will have the priceless services of Tony McCoy.
