ADAM Boyes is on the verge of leaving York City to join Championship club Scunthorpe United.

City boss Martin Foyle has confirmed to The Press that he expects 18-year-old striker Boyes to be moving on with chairman Jason McGill having concluded a deal for his departure.

Boyes, who has previously attracted attention from the likes of Manchester United, Middlesbrough and Tottenham, has also been the subject of strong interest from Leeds United.

But Foyle ruled out a move to Elland Road, saying: “He’s definitely not going to Leeds, no chance.”

And The Press understands that Boyes has agreed personal terms with the Glanford Park outfit, where he would join former team-mate Martyn Woolford.

Foyle said: “I don’t want to name the club because deals can always fall through, but this one looks like it will go ahead. It’s just a matter of dotting the i’s and crossing the t’s.

“The chairman has done the deal and it’s a good one for York City Football Club and a good one for the player.”

While not revealing the size of the transfer fee for Boyes, Foyle, right, confirmed his departure would have funded the failed £80,000 bid for Ebbsfleet pair Michael Gash and Darius Charles.

Foyle also added that City were still waiting to hear back from the Kent club after making their revised offer for Gash, believed to be in the region of £50,000.

He said: “We put in a faxed offer for Michael Gash three days ago, but we haven’t heard back from Ebbsfleet yet. I think there’s a fair bit going on there at the moment.

“They have a lot of trialists to look at but we believe we’ve made a good offer and done everything right. The chairman has backed me to wheel and deal.

“Adam has potential but, in Michael and Darius, we were also targeting a couple of up-and-coming players as well.”

Ben Wilkinson, meanwhile, is poised to join Chester City, now managed by former Scarborough boss Mick Wads-worth, after having his Bootham Crescent contract terminated by mutual consent.

About his departure, Foyle added: “It was only right for him to move on as his chances of getting a game here were slim.

“I told him that two weeks prior to coming back for pre- season to give him a chance of getting sorted out and I think he has done.”
