York City striker Adam Boyes to join Championship club Scunthorpe United

Wembley’s FA Trophy final in May looks to be Adam Boyes’ last game for York City Wembley’s FA Trophy final in May looks to be Adam Boyes’ last game for York City

ADAM Boyes is on the verge of leaving York City to join Championship club Scunthorpe United.

City boss Martin Foyle has confirmed to The Press that he expects 18-year-old striker Boyes to be moving on with chairman Jason McGill having concluded a deal for his departure.

Boyes, who has previously attracted attention from the likes of Manchester United, Middlesbrough and Tottenham, has also been the subject of strong interest from Leeds United.

But Foyle ruled out a move to Elland Road, saying: “He’s definitely not going to Leeds, no chance.”

And The Press understands that Boyes has agreed personal terms with the Glanford Park outfit, where he would join former team-mate Martyn Woolford.

Foyle said: “I don’t want to name the club because deals can always fall through, but this one looks like it will go ahead. It’s just a matter of dotting the i’s and crossing the t’s.

“The chairman has done the deal and it’s a good one for York City Football Club and a good one for the player.”

While not revealing the size of the transfer fee for Boyes, Foyle, right, confirmed his departure would have funded the failed £80,000 bid for Ebbsfleet pair Michael Gash and Darius Charles.

Foyle also added that City were still waiting to hear back from the Kent club after making their revised offer for Gash, believed to be in the region of £50,000.

He said: “We put in a faxed offer for Michael Gash three days ago, but we haven’t heard back from Ebbsfleet yet. I think there’s a fair bit going on there at the moment.

“They have a lot of trialists to look at but we believe we’ve made a good offer and done everything right. The chairman has backed me to wheel and deal.

“Adam has potential but, in Michael and Darius, we were also targeting a couple of up-and-coming players as well.”

Ben Wilkinson, meanwhile, is poised to join Chester City, now managed by former Scarborough boss Mick Wads-worth, after having his Bootham Crescent contract terminated by mutual consent.

About his departure, Foyle added: “It was only right for him to move on as his chances of getting a game here were slim.

“I told him that two weeks prior to coming back for pre- season to give him a chance of getting sorted out and I think he has done.”

Can't really comment until we get some detail. As long as it's a good deal, then it's a good move for all concerned.

Strangely, that's still how most football clubs do business. A faxed offer.

as usual agree with imp. until we know the deal and what we will get cannot really comment.

if we get close to 100k for him then it would be regarded as a fair deal i guess as he shows a lot of potential.

all i will say is that he was a natural looking footballer and a great finisher. was unlucky with his early run without goals but will no doubt develop.

if he goes he should be wished well. seems a good lad.

he was a terrible finisher. the only goals he scored were tap-ins.

if you ever saw him for the reserves or in training you would have seen the natural ability he has.

are you forgetting that he is 18?

Tap-ins are the "life blood" of good finishers!he will develop a lot further,I just hope we nail down some VERY good add-ons & we are not mesmerised by the talk of £100k effectively upfront?Good Luck to him!

Provided the deal is a decent one, this is a good move for both Boyes and York City. He's clearly a talented footballer but I can't see how he'd have played a prominent role in the new season.

Unless we get back in the Football League to get funding help for the youth team, this could be the last homegrown youngster we manage to sell on for quite a while.

Everyone is speculating about the price - I bet it will be an undisclosed fee!

If City were to get something like £100k, plus a sell on clause for Adam Boyes, it would be a fantastic deal. Adam is a good prospect but he has a fair way to go before he is any where near the finished product. York City can not afford to sit around for a couple of seasons to see if Adam makes any progress. Sell him now, use the money wisely, and let Scunthorpe do the waiting, that makes common sense.

As he is a product of the youth development I hope that some of the money will go to keep the youth side running

I would be disapointed to see Boyes go, I think he had the potential but 100K is fantastic money for an 18 year old (if thats what the bid is). I just hope Foyle can bring another striker in because it looks like the Gash deal may not now go ahead.

On BBC Website
""At the moment I'm sure York do want to take them but at this moment in time that deal is no longer on," Daish told BBC Radio Kent.

"We are not being rushed into anything. They are both Ebbsfleet players and that's the way it stands at the moment.

"I see them as part of our squad at the start of the season," he added.

Football frans know so little about football.

Boyes wasn't ready for regular first-team action, so he didn't play anywhere near the level he will in the future. This is a good move as he can develop more naturally than at York.

Anyone saying the lad can't finish has only watched him for the first team. He's got vision, movement, technique, and is way ahead of any other player at the club in terms of how good he can be. Reminds me a lot of Greening, who attracted similarly ignorant comments and has gone on to carve out a top-flight career. Wouldn't shock me if Boyes reaches the same level.

Agree totally with you Imp. Sure this is the right move and would not be at all surprised if he matures physically into a great player. I am also reminded of what many fans said about Cresswell before he left us and i don't think he was as good at this age.
