York John Smith’s Ladies Darts League held their annual Elsie Bell Memorial drawn pairs competition at three venues.

At Cueball, Slip ‘B’s Becky Laverack and Swan’s Kathy Evans ran out champions and go through to the semi-finals night, which will be held at Tramways Working Men’s Club on Tuesday, May 5.

Laverack and Evans progressed to the board final with a 2-1 win against Cueball’s Tina Platt and Swan’s Jo Ellerker, with the deciding leg going to the wire.

The duo then met Clifton’s Lynda Kennelly and Swan’s Carole Keleda, who had come through after a tight tussle against Cueball pairing Tracey Farmeary (3 x 100) and June Miller.

Kennelly closed the opener on 45 after the snooker club pairing struggled to finish.

Farmeary levelled the tie with a double-eight check.

The decider went to the wire before Keleda slotted in a 55 closure. Laverack and Evans were in full flow, checking 24 in the opening leg.

The second leg went to the wire before Laverack slotted home double four to progress to the board final, where they met Burnholme’s Toni Smallwood and Burton Club’s Joan Wood.

They had a 2-0 victory in a hard-fought match against Lynne Clapham (Cueball) and Clifton’s Sue Lowery, who had KO’d Flag’s Jo West and Tina Lane (Tramways) 2 -0, both legs going to the wire.

Smallwood and Woods gamed in 20 darts with Woods hitting 140 and Smallwood closing.

The second leg was a closer affair with both pairs struggling to finish. Evans at last located the double and closed on double 19 in the decider to ensure their place in the semi-finals.

Clifton board winners were Cueball’s Angie Hields, one of the present holders of the title, and Locomotive’s Florence Crampton, who won through in the first round taking out Cygnet’s Lynn Thompson and Burton’s Clair Mill in a three-match thriller.

Thompson closed 68 to go one up, but Hields and Crampton replied with a 20-dart game.

In the decider, the Cueball star hit a 120 at a vital stage, then closed on double one for the win.

Next the dynamic duo encountered Cygnet’s Dawn Exton and Cueball’s Faye Hawksby and started as they meant to go on, Hields closing with a two-dart 97, then double eight, to seal victory.

In the board finals, they met Cygnet captain Michelle Britton and Burton’s Linda Embleton, who had polished off Pat Nelson (Clifton) and Sue Smith (Cueball) 2-0 with checkouts of 48 and 36.

Britton then met her sister Amanda and Winning Post’s Diane Armer, whom they dispatched with finishes of 91 and double four.

The board final went to the wire in both games.

Both sides missed their finishes before Hields and Crampton snatched a 35 closure to secure a 2-0 victory.
