THE shock of the season so far came in the third round of the York FA Saturday Senior Cup courtesy of Easingwold Town.

Division one Town humbled Leeper Hare York Football League premier division leaders Hamilton Panthers 4-1.

Easingwold took the lead on three minutes through a left-footed shot from Nick Thorne.

Early in the second half, Easingwold increased their lead when Andrew Metcalfe junior picked up the ball on half way and beat three defenders before slotting the ball passed the Hamilton ’keeper.

Jonny Hunter cracked in an unstoppable shot to give Easingwold a 3-0 lead and then Alex Roff crossed from the right and the ball deflected into the Hamilton goal off a defender.

Ten minutes from time, James Anderson netted a consolation goal for Panthers.

Holders Old Malton are back in the semi-finals following a 5-2 win over York St John University.

Liam Cooper lashed in the first goal after only two minutes and Dave Bell scored number two, while Cooper struck again before half-time.

With five minutes remaining, their lead was cut to 3-2 but Bell netted twice in the last two minutes of the game to complete his hat-trick.

The match between Ouseburn and Huntington was decided in the final five minutes by Gary Newton’s goal.

Kartiers were 2-1 winners at Dunnington.

Michael Braithwaite laid on the first for Louis Blackwell after 35 minutes and Jon Page scored the second early in the second half.

Chris Burgess reduced the arrears from the penalty spot.

Meanwhile, Heworth were left in a fog as they exited the York FA Saturday Junior Cup after a 3-0 round three defeat to Hemingbrough.

An outstanding display by Hemingbrough ’keeper Nathan Briggs kept Heworth at bay in the first half.

The fog lifted briefly and ’Brough took advantage in a purple patch which brought three goals in two minutes.

Chris Cauldwell cracked in a loose ball from the edge of the penalty area, then Danny Smith scored an identical goal and Luke Lazaranko made it three.

Heslington were 6-2 winners at Melbourne with goals from Danny Walters (2), Pete Elcock, Alvin Johns, Geordie Topping and an own goal.

The only goal between the reserve sides of Wigginton Grasshoppers and York St John University came midway through the first half through student Adam Allcock.

A last-minute penalty from Jonny Thomas-Durrant gave Huby United a 2-1 victory over local rivals Easingwold Reserves.

Thorpe United Reserves progressed after a 4-2 extra time win over Old Malton Reserves. Shaun Pickles and Matthew Dunn scored in over time.

A Mommodon Ciss hat-trick helped Haxby United Reserves to a 7-1 win over Kartiers Reserves.

The other scorers were Josh Leeming, Rick Sellars, Matt Foggan and Mike Taylor.

The highest scorer of the round was Strensall’s Jonny Cooper, who netted four as his team beat Ouseburn Reserves 6-0.

Mike Pipe also scored and Tony Mason netted from the penalty spot.
