Hodgson’s happily back to Yorkshire roots

Yorkshire County Cricket Club have signed home-grown all-rounder Lee Hodgson on a two-year deal, a move which helps ease their pace bowling concerns.

The 22-year-old, from Middlesbrough, arrives after spending the second half of last season with Surrey, where he made his County Championship debut against Nottinghamshire at the Oval.

Although Hodgson, who has been an MCC young cricketer since 2006, hit 63 against the LV Division One runners-up in September he describes himself as “a bowling all-rounder”.

“I am very pleased to have signed for Yorkshire,” said Hodgson.

“It is my home county, and it was my dream as a young lad to play for this club.”

Yorkshire director of cricket Martyn Moxon describes his new player as “an investment for the future”.

Moxon also revealed that he was impressed with a display of 4 for 44 and 85 for Surrey seconds against Yorkshire seconds at York’s Clifton Park during the summer.

Hodgson appeared as a substiture fielder for England in two Test matches at Lord’s in 2007.
